Know what you mean - it applies to 90% of all death- and black metal bands. Especially death. I prefer my metal progressive for the most part, hence one of my favourite bands of recent years:Today I'm not a really big Metal know it all, there's just so many bands that sounds the same or tries to sound like each other. But I still love the music I grew up with and still listen to new stuff released from all the oldish Metal and nu-metal bands.

One of my favourite prog bands. Pareidolia from that album is a fantastic song.
Anyway lately I've been on a huge post-metal kick. I simply cannot get enough of this genre. For reference see bands like:

- ISIS
- Neurosis
- Alcest
100% agreed on Haken. I'd also recomend The Ocean since you're into post metal. Their most recent album is excelent.
