The METAL Thread

The extreme metal stuff got me wondering what the more extreme music I listen to is (turns out, not all that much), although I enjoy Meshuggah, Bloodbath, old Opeth and that sort of thing.

Anyway, I keep trying to get people into Devin Townsend, and most often receive muted responses in return, so if anyone's looking for something heavier, and is not aware of Strapping Young Lad, worth looking into.

Devin Townsend is a ****ing god!

Are you talking about the Plovdiv recording (2017), which is Ocean Machine in its entirety plus fan choices, and a hell of a listen, or Empath (2019), his most recent?
Talking about Empath.

Devin Townsend is the David Gilmour of Metal.

Empath is excellent, but it must be said, there's a lot to take in there. It's the sort of thing that requires a couple of listens to digest, since it's basically an entire album encapsulated in the madness of this one crazy song:

Lol, the comment there

Record company guy: "what genre is this?"
Devin: "yes"

Firstly, that song and video are ****ing amazing. However, I am still more of a
Deadhead style of Devin fan. (To external parties, please listen to until at least 3.5 mins in)

This is also amazing:

There's no way to really introduce anyone to his music, aside from, just listen to the entire discography, basically. Also, this:

I find also, it's typically the case that MY favourite tunes might not be the correct cup of tea for someone else, but buried within his vast array of music, I'm convinced there's something in there to touch just about anyone's soul.
