using a lot of dell stuff, their sale side is a bit slow but their business support is good

We are also consolidating to Dell .. with a good Corporate Account manager sales are easy enough, and yes, their after sales support is good.

And in terms of pricing, on all our server quotes, HP's been double the price

HP does tend to be a little more expensive than Dell ;(
But I usually opt for doing a custom build.

Does it really matter what badge is on the case?

It would be interesting to know what CPU is most popular in servers, or what server OS is most popular.

The Intel Xeon processor is most popular, from my experience. The OS depends on the exact needs it needs to fulfill. Unfortunately Linux still has some catching up to do (they are working on that, however).

I would have thought it was the other way round? Its been at least 7 years since I last deployed a windows server for anything.

I know, I refuse to willingly do anything Windows** but M$ must be paying them or something. I have been seeing a big change the last while though. All the servers I work on are Linux based.
