I can relate 100% to the OP's question. I really struggle to "switch off" at night.
To be honest. My kids are 7 and 3 respectively. So I have actually not had a normal night of uninterrupted sleep in about 7 years.
At least once a night - I get up, stumble through the house with a glass of water, a teddy-bear, or a sleeping kid who snuck into bed with us or wants to go to the toilet. You know you are a parent when you wake up halfway through making a bottle of baby formula and don't even remember getting up. Trust me - work is the one thing you do not think about at 2 am.
So I know you guys are going to think me a total dumb-ass but...
Is it possible that extensive hours of programming over a week or 3 can be detrimental to ones mental or physical health?
(I work out 2 x a week, and work my regular job during the week days) But weekends and almost every other spare minute I have, I am programming, trying to finish a project for a client. I have no deadline but I am trying to finish it as quickly as possible.
The reason I am asking is, I have noticed lately that when I have programmed for a few hours, when I do go to bed eventually, my mind keeps racing through the code I have written and things to write the next day. This makes falling asleep very hard, and I feel "strange" in the morning. Don't ask me to clarify "strange", I can't.
Suppose its just mental fatigue, but just wanted to hear your guys opinion on this.
You guys need jesus
You seem to be retarded because everybody knows weed will make things worse. Why? Does he have weed?
No matter how interesting a book may be when it time for the Zzzz I will be out like a light. If you are going to read a book make it something boring. Else you'll just sit with the same problem![]()

So what is your problem then? I suffer from this daily, its a programmers plague.
Anyone doing using their pc at night for non color-sensitive work should have f.lux installed...if you don't, you're doing it wrong. I know the orange takes a few seconds to get used to, but what's even worse is when you disable f.lux at 3am and get that radioactive-blue blast blinding you.
It's free too: http://justgetflux.com/
