The MTN share price thread

Personally, MTN and VOD will eventually be priced as utilities - although their DY might price them a little higher. Thumb sucking, but a P/E between 12- 14 might be more reasonable. On the TA side, there is (I think) a potential bear flag on MTN's monthly chart. Obviously, that's my investment view - as to a trade, yeah, would see if it hit 116, then sell if it rallies to 130 - but might be smarter to wait for it to hit 130, then short.

The had their day with crazy margins on voice calls - competition in data is going to shrink those fat profits. But you will be buying them for steady dividends - not growth. IMO

Interesting thought one I share as well as I believe internet should be a basic need like electricity.

Many utility stocks pay a reasonable dividend on a consistent basis. Utility companies often operate in a regulated market environment with a built-in monopolistic structure. The high infrastructure requirements for utilities allegedly make competition counterproductive. The regulated costs of utilities make it easy to predict future revenues. Consistent revenues make the payment of dividends an easy task. Many sophisticated investors attempt to predict or model future dividend payments for a company. If a utility company raises or lowers the dividend, it could have a strong impact on the company’s stock price.

I "gamble" in MTN because I have the means to do so I won't advise someone to do it without some experience, in experience I refer to be subjected to the psychological aspect of trading and investing most lose money not due to bad investments but rather bad timing due to emotions kicking in.

Rather start of with the bulk of your money is say JSE:CTOP50 and JSE: DbxWD/PTXTEN then with like 5% of your remaining money do some risky stuff like MTN to get the feel for it.

I hope this makes sense?
