The next Springbok Coach

I will fully support White's appointment.

He took unknown kids back in 2003 and made them the legends they are today. de Villiers stuck to that same squad core which just proves what a great team Jake built.
We will have to start from scratch again and there is only one person who has proven that he can build a team from scratch and win a RWC with them. I can't see how anyone would disagree with his appointment.

Im in two minds about white. In 2006 (3rd year into his contract) he had something like a 40% win ratio including the 49-0 loss to australia and had a 67% win ratio over all.
Graham henry has an 82% win ratio
john mitchell had an 82% win ratio with NZ
granted white did well in year 2007
we won the world cup, but also had an easy route getting there- and didn't face aus or nz
The core squad were also mostly the bulls players Meyer built up.

It will be Alistair Coetzee. Not a bad option but not necessarily the best option at this point.

Heyneke Meyer has his hands full looking over all of the rugby structures within the Blue Bulls Rugby Union. He is also a proponent of the downright turgid 10-man rugby that has clearly hampered the 'Boks. Our forwards can dominate a game but our backline has forgotten how to attack and finish opportunities.

Jake White will never be offered the job. Like Nick Mallett he was too independent for SA Rugby who seem to prefer ''Yes sir, no sir'' puppets. Plus he ripped into SA Rugby after his departure and the egos at SA Rugby will not be pleased with his return. Jake White should never have been released anyway. Should have given him another 4-year contract.

Alistair will be a 60-40 ability-political appointment.

Technical Advisor: Rassie Erasmus
Head Coach: Alistair Coetzee
Assistant Forwards Coach: John Plumtree (Young and a student of the ''modern'' game.)
Assistant Backs Coach: Brendan Venter (A near unrivaled rugby brain that might actually get our backline thinking again instead of trying to run right through the biggest concentration of opposition forwards they can find. Sadly he too is an outspoken individual, so who knows if the puppet masters at SA Rugby will be able to tolerate him?)
Scrum Coach: Gert Small (He's turned the Irish pack into a monstrous unit.)
Kicking Coach: Percy Montgomery

No I agree, White had his hick-ups and was close to being fired. The thing though is that he was building a team and we didn't understand it back then. Towards the world cup we noticed that he built us one of the best Springbok teams to ever field on a rugby field. Most of these guys who are now legends became legends under Jake White.

Ooh I love all this speculation...that is what these forums are for isn't it? But let's all get back to reallity quickly:

1. The coach/manager will ALWAYS be black/colored. "Once you go black, you'll never go back".
2. As usual Twakkie fell over his own words after game and "resigned" in the press so SARU had a hissy fit, thus the "retraction" from Twakkie.
3. JW has an iron clad 4 year contract with the Brumbies...he aint going nowhere.
4. Nick Mallet is not interested and never will be.
5. Rassie, by his own admission hates the limelight so he cannot be coach/manager.

Let's be honest any coaching team will be a breath of fresh air after Twakkie and Dick Muir.

My vote: John Mitchell

Jake White wants to have a go again:

Jake White wants Bok job back

I like Heyneke, but I'm not sure if he will be able to deal with the constant political interference. Jake will be ready for it.

Please not Jake. He is technically not bad but really he is not as great as some seem to believe. He was lucky in the WC. PdV's team at this years WC inspired more confidence in me than the team of 2007.

so it turns out now that divvy wont be stepping down and will be willing to continue should they offer to renew his contract.

No he will only step down end of the year as his contract ends then.

I will fully support White's appointment.

Sorry PB but White refusing to play a fetcher? White refusing to admit that pulling Bob Skinstad back from fsck knows where was a bad idea... The only good thing he did was to create good structures and to make JS captain. I am really not a big fan of his.

From news24.com (http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/RugbyWorldCup2011/Three-favourites-for-Bok-coach-20111010):

"Cape Town - Three possible candidates have apparently been identified as the successor to Springbok coach Peter de Villiers.

Top officials at SA Rugby confirmed to Sport24 that Rassie Erasmus, Allister Coetzee and Gert Smal are the three favourites to take over from De Villiers as Springbok coach.

Reliable sources also confirmed that current Springbok Sevens coach, Paul Treu, is the favourite to become the Boks' new backline coach.

The new Springbok coach will probably only be named next year as De Villiers's contract only expires at the end of the year.

De Villiers said after South Africa's 11-9 Rugby World Cup quarter-final loss to Australia that he thinks his time as coach will come to an end.

"I think so," he said. "It was a brilliant journey ... There's a time to come and a time to go. So I think the journey for me is over," De Villiers told Reuters.

Erasmus is currently the senior professional coach at Western Province and the Stormers and was also the Boks technical advisor at the World Cup.

Coetzee, the current WP coach, told Die Burger he knows nothing about who the next coach will be. "As far as my knowledge goes, nobody has been approached for the job yet," said Coetzee.

Bok vice-captain Victor Matfield told Sport24 upon the Boks' arrival from New Zealand on Monday that Coetzee would be the ideal candidate for the job.

Smal is currently Ireland's forwards coach."

Dude, looking at it, all four of those combined would make an awesome coaching staff.

Head Coach - Allister Coetzee
Assistant Forwards Coach - Gert Smal
Assistant Backs Coach - Paul Treu
Technical Advisor - Rassie Erasmus

2015 World Cup Champions.

Allister is no mug as a coach and he has a lot of respect with outgoing 'Boks. Matfield spoke highly of him recently.

Smal is head coach material but let's face it, with Allister there he has no chance with SARU's political agenda that we cannot hide from nor deny. He is an excellent forward coach and has done a great job with the Irish pack.

Treu is a bit of a surprise candidate for the XV-man game but he will definitely bring an attacking edge we so desperately need to work on.

There is not much to be said about Rassie Erasmus. The guy is a rugby genius.

+1. Add to that Mix heyneke as a "young development head" and we are on track to dominate World Rugby for the next 4-8 years :D

Alistair Coetzee - should have got the job ahead of divvy Dally in the first place.

Yeah, Alistair "no cups" Coetzee sure is the right way to go

how bout this time round, we actually pick the most qualified, and best person for the job... lets try that for a change
