The Nvidia GTX 680 Thread

I'm guessing you missed the part where the HD7970 dropped 10fps between now and when the HD7950 was reviewed. Think it was Dirt3 in which this happened

Good grief archer... you're just holding on right to the end aren't you. Well the Tweaktown article should settle it, let's go see...

I thought the card will be much better. The features sounds cool but depends in real world performance. I think I will wait to see better drivers etc etc

Thats why I never ever look at leaked carp, because you dont know the context or anything. But then people just love jumping on it as if its gospel. There must be some reason why the 7970 lost 10fps (around 15% of its performance) or the leaked slides are just BS

edit: and I'll still be waiting until Guru3D, Anandtech, Techpowerup and Hardwarecanucks post their reviews. Tweaktown might be just a little biased at this point given how they have been treated :p

From the Tweaktown review it looks like Nvidia's coming into a very dominant position here, in both pricing and performance. Apart from 1 game, AVP, it is significantly faster or at least on par with a 7970. Sometimes it plays against 6990.

We've sent countless email and the fact this is going up before NDA time is going to annoy a lot of people. In our defense, we don't actually know the NDA time because NVIDIA Taiwan won't respond. Plus, I'm personally just past caring about it anymore. Our relationship with NVIDIA is so broken that it doesn't matter what we do, they have no interest in dealing with us on a professional level. Due to the region NVIDIA North America won't deal with us and NVIDIA Taiwan just don't like us and / or don't want to work with us at all.

Ouch..

First review is up, because Nvidia never sent them the NDA details, lol. Loading might be slow, I've only managed to see one page so far

Site is very slow must be getting hammered.

I've printed the entire review to PDF and you can download it as a single 7.23MB file from here.

Ha ha, here is another comment from tweaktown

Editor Note - I couldn't agree with Shane more. The good thing for you, our readers, is that you are going to get early information on all things NVIDIA. If NVIDIA do decide to support us like any other media, we will play by the rules. Until then, it's gloves off...

That'll help :)

Anyone else notice the power draw numbers? GTX680 is meant to have a lower TDP (195W iirc) than the HD7970 (210W iirc), but the GTX is drawing 50W more at load than a stock HD7970. Granted thats from the wall power draw so the difference is closer to 40W, but something isnt right there... 6+6 pins draw less power than 6+8 darn it!

Not to mention Toms rated it a lower draw....

More reviews needed!

A little birdie told me in BF3 you're looking at 11% faster (over a HD7970) at 1920x1080, and 5% faster at 2560x1600 with 4xAA at both resolutions
A very mild overclock of the HD7970 to 1000mhz nets it the win at 2560x1600, 4xAA

So lets see how right the birdie is :D Its going to be very interesting to see how easily and how high the GTX680 can overclock. Memory overclocks are definately going to serve the GTX680 very well at higher resolutions

Ok... because the little birdie I'm looking at - aka Tweaktown and Flyingsuicide - is telling me quite a different story.
BF3 1920x1200 - 680 57, 7970 46. 2560 - 680 38, 7970 33.

Link to Tweaktown BF3 scores?
Flyingsuicide has its sources within a forum (just links to the forum, not the actual post), so I wont comment on that

Oh TT doesn't have BF3 my bad. Toms did though... but can't find those leaked images now.

I don't even know why I care it's not like I'll be able to afford one anytime soon. I think there's probably a bit of Nvidia fanboy in me from the 8800 days hoping they'd make another big leap forwards.
