The Official Biltong Enthusiasts Thread

I have some razor sharp knives so cutting chunks is easy enough already but sometimes thin slices are nicer and can be difficult to get right with a knife. I have seen those cutting blocks and although they seem to be OK I think I would prefer something that can do more consistent thicknesses. I have looked at the motor driven ones as well but they're around R4k and probably overkill.

What's the price of the manual biltong slicer?

I have one of the wooden ones, and nice thin consistent slices is not easy. Especially if you like your biltong fatty and still a little on the wet side. The blade can never be sharp enough, and when the meat is soft it 'squishes' it more than what it cuts it... I also would like something which can give me more consistent thin slices... which is also doesn't cost 4k.

Hi Fanie the wooden ones - the blade - is it a blade from a woodwork plane?

I was referring to the biltong slicer in Zenbaas's post.

I have no idea. My crafting skills is 0(zero). Check earlier in the thread, think there is a picture of mine when it broke. You should see the blade in there.

Ja I'm scheming the same. Maybe I'll make myself the Guinea pig. (And I would never be offended by that :D Ons verstaan mos mekaar :p)
