The official Mikrotik router thread

Hey all.

Ordered an RB750Gr3 upon a recommendation which should be arriving soon. I'm moving across from a Ubiquiti Edgerouter X as the load-balancing setup on it is not up to scratch and causing all sorts of headaches.

Will definitely be posting up here as I go along :)
 
Just remember mikrotik does not have fasttrack for ipv6 so performance will not be that great if you have more than 200mbit fibre

I think mine maxes out at about 180-200mbit

Just to add to the above, I havent tried streamlining my firewall rules, you may be able to get more performance out with clever rules

Biggest benefit is Wireguard built in

There are a few annoying bugs that affect me:

1) If you have any queues active, ipv6 connection tracking breaks, which breaks ipv6
2) If you change your interfaces like a disable or rename etc you have to enable and disable ipv6 sometimes to get it working
3) the webui is a mess, being on mac this is annoying as running winbox requires wine etc

Its starting to come together with the last few releases, I havent had random crashes since beta7.3 ish

The main reason for upgrading, the first thing I checked. Got max 530ish with fast track disabled :) Much better performance than the RB750

I have a couple of things on my network :)

I have a guest hotspot, tenant network, ip cams, pi hole etc all on different routes and rules. I wanted to fix bufferbloat, but the moment I disabled fasttrack on the RB750 the little guy died.

At least the upgrade works fine so far with or without fasttrack on 500Mbit :love:

I ended up returning the RB750Gr3 and got an RB760iGS instead. R100 bucks more, and I can use the PoE passthrough to power my AP. Now to find a use for the SFP port:unsure:

Technically with the 1GB NAND, it should have an exponentially longer lifespan than the RB750 models. Your writes would spread across a lot more cells, and in so doing, it will last way longer before having so many bad blocks which would render the device inoperable.

Now, rewrite that in a way that your SO understands for the WAF, and there you go:D

I currently have a set of Mikrotik Audiences that run my mesh. They are test samples from the office, my RB2011 is sitting in the cupboard. And I am planning to move to the UK in 2025 and only take my clothes with me, so buying new networking gear just doesnt make sense until I am that side.

From ROS6 you have to select development, upgrade to ROS7 then its the stable version. Hope that makes sense
