On basic functionality its the same but OpenWRT has some neat packages (especially security/analytics). However, not enough space on a tik for them. Better for openwrt is an intel/arm network appliance. Even a pi4 with a manged switch that's vlan capable. You assign vlans on the pi and breakouts on the switch.
Very cost effective alternative.

So I am probably searching wrong with terminology, or this hasn't been discussed, so please assist with guidance.
I am on Level-7, and they don't provide a user accessible view on monthly usage
Is there something I can configure on the Mikrotik that will be able to show me my usage per day? (I tried the Graphing thing on the RB750, but could never get it to work)

Thanks ... but that seems a bit overkill.
I don't want to track/control usage, just want a number basically stating 100Gb up until point x
 
Hi all, I am back with questions :)
So running the hAP2 (1Gbps) with DECO S4 for 5Ghz network, and Archer C64s for 2.4Ghz network and LAN replication/connections

So everything is 1Gbps LAN connected. Upgraded to 500Mbps yesterday, but only getting 236-ish Mbps on all speedtests. Is there something I should be looking at on the Mikrotik that might be causing this, or did Level-7 not upgrade properly?

Check that you are not maxing out the CPU when doing a speedtest. If you are, next would be to profile and see where the CPU is used.

CPU was running at 50% ... but it is now up to 500Mbps ... guess Level-7 was not done with the upgrade, or forgot something

You can tally the WAN interface bytes in/out and reset on a schedule (as long as there's no reboots or you'll have an unexpected data reset to 0)

If you want a more techy solution you can push the MT data to splunk running on a Pi

With the speed upgrade to 500Mbps, I have been playing around wit my queues to set it perfect for bufferbloat, but I have noticed the following:

With no queue set, I get around 540Mbps/480Mbps down/up, which is pretty decent. This is on LAN as well as 5Ghz Wifi
With and SFQ/CODEL queues set (like I have previously, I just bumped the queue to 480/475 down/up as per bufferbloat tests) I get around 380/370 down/up on LAN, and 270/270 down/up on 5Ghz Wifi.

And these tests are consistent (whole house is still asleep).
Queue on, drop to below 400Mbps, queue off goes over 500Mbps

The problem is the CPU. Probably the spec is too low. Advanced queuing does better on an Intel. But 400mbs is fine. Take it.
