I had him on a queue, capping him at half line speed, however the last 3 or so months it still gave me packet drops. Guess I need to check is gaming PC to see if he is not using a dynamic MAC address or something, bypassing the static IP.I think you might need to play around with maybe placing your PS in your queue tree as a top priority device, and set the 'limit at' (MT speak for guaranteed bandwidth) at maybe 7500k or 10m and see if that improves things.
Otherwise, assign a static IP to your son's downloading device and then using queues, you can give him a 'lower' (higher, in this case) prio which should also help. You might need to also play around with different queue types. Unfortunately there is no one size fits all, but figuring it out is half the fun.
FYI, all my known devices have static IPs in the range, to ensure I can queue them should I need/want to, and to make sure I know how to connect to them remotely
