The Official NVidia Shield Thread

I have this TV, the SJ800. It has Trumotion 240 which computes to 120Hz.
For some reason I only receive 4K at 60Hz. I am using an old cable. Could it be that?

Do you guys see 4K 120Hz on your TV's in the Shield settings?

Let's cut this thread off at the knees shall we:

If you're going to label it "Official" impart some info, not just an endless stream of inane questions that are easily answerable yourself.

Got 7.1 last night, fairly minor but at least there's an easily accessible restart in the menu now. A restart is very rarely required but when it is it was annoying to have the option buried in like 5 menus.

Uhhhmmm.... it's my thread and I can do whatever the **** I want. No one asked you to be here.

And I have asked about 120HZ option on 4k since there is no info available regarding the HDMI cable itself.

I have googled some stuff but this is a beginners thread for anyone that is new to the device to learn something that others might be able to help with. The info at the end of the day will turn into a review. Again, GFY.

Since the latest Shield update, I can't access the VUDU app at all. It's just disappeared from the home screen, list of sideloaded apps, and everywhere else.

I can't even try to uninstall the thing because it doesn't show up at all in the list of downloaded apps, or anywhere else in the entire system storage. I've checked every bit of it.

When I try to sideload an apk of it, it gives me a message that the application already exists, and an error when I try to install over it.

I'm scratching my head here. lol

Maybe factory reset your device?
We probably shouldn't reply or offer advice on teething problems before this **** tells me/us to google stuff.

Use a VPN or DNS proxy to change your location to US and it should appear.

Just you... Figured out the difference between GameStream and GeForce Now yet?

I know the difference. This is not the problem at all but the question was related to latency and packet drops, and secondly, why bother streaming a game from NVidia Shield servers where you can just download the APK.... the actual problem is below.

I simply asked if other people with a 4K TV, that has 240Hz Trumotion detect 4K 120Hz on the shield when connected to the TV as I only see 60Hz. Is this an "easily answerable" question that one would find immediately on google since the update was just released???
I asked the forum members what they see as this thread is more active than what is out there FFS.
This topic of 4K 120Hz is not discussed elsewhere.

The games you can stream from GeForce Now aren't Android games, they are full PC games, PUBG, Overwatch, Destiny 2, The Witcher 3 etc etc.

I see Sonic & All stars is an android game as well. Hence the sideloading of that.
No way that I am going to play Overwatch and such from the NVidia servers.

Well obviously not us in pleb land but if you live somewhere that has servers you can play a ton of PC games right on your Shield without even having to have a gaming PC.

I have been using Getflix DNS for quite some time now. So I think I should be covered in that regard.

As far as I can determine, the VUDU app is built into the SHIELD software OS, and seemingly needs a couple things (for users outside the US) to be "correct" on ones end for it to show up. I already had set the language setting to English (US). But somewhere during the latest Shield update, the "location status" in the Personal settings had been turned on. I set it to "off", and now the VUDU app stays present and behaves normally.

Anyone care to share links on how to get this in SA? Any specials??
Amazon UK screwed me over - lost out on like R300 (due to exchange rate) after they cancelled and refunded - saying they won't ship it as it contains batteries.

Amazon US worked for me.

Mine shipped with Batteries.

Why did you go with Amazon UK. Doesn't the exchange rate hurt you?

It was on special - worked out to R3400 all in.
The exchange rate hurt when they did the refund

That special worked out to roughly R2600 on US Amazon. I know that because I bought a Shield (16GB) on that day.
