The Official NVidia Shield Thread

Thanks Soul,

Worked like a treat, pity the rocket scientist at the help desk didn't suggest that!

Hi. After going through 4 Mi boxes, I have decided to get a shield. Does the ps4 remote work flawlessly out of the box?
I can only comment on the PS4 controller. Yes it works perfectly.
I still prefer an XBox control over the PS4 control though.

Anyone know of an alarm application that switches the Shield on so that it can play my favourite music on startup?

I have an app for an alarm, but I don't think it will play music?

Though, have you tried Google's Home Automation with the Shield... ?

Nah what do I need to set that up? I just use Google Play Music on my Shield.

If you have an Android Phone, download Google Home. Then you can use the google assistant to send commands. There's a section for Home Control that allows some automation. If that does not work out, it might be possible to use IFTTT. Have not tried using it for my Shield yet. I do use it for some of my Sonoff devices to turn lights on and off at certain times.

edit: I actually dont use the Shields bult in OK Google, I have a Google Home Mini speaker in my room that I find performs better...

Thanks, I will mess around with it when I get home. :)
I have CEC set up, but when I press the middle button on the Shield remote, then nothing switches on.
I have to switch the TV on with it's own remote.

Actually going to reset the Shield back to factory settings tonight and start anew.

Currently have two mi boxes. Took the plunge on cyber Monday and bought mine from Amazon us store. It arrived today and now realize I need to buy an adapter for the us plug.

Mr Panda chinese shop sells them under R50

So I had a look at my setup today...

I have a Hisense 4K 55" Smart TV, LG 5.1 Blu-ray 5.1 system and the Nvidia SHIELD. I setup the Google home and assistant to work with my Google home mini devices (I have 3). From any device that responds to "OK Google" I can switch on my Tv, HiFi and Shield by just telling it to switch the tv on. The CEC seems to work well for my setup.

Now in Google Home, there is scope within to automate stuff:

Google Home > Account > Settings > Assistant > routines.

I tested a routine where I created a voice command trigger "wake up" with the additional option to run at every weekday at 5am. Next option is the command you want to run, for me I said "turn on the tv" with a second command to "play music" (my default music application is Google's Play Music - I have a family subscription) . I then chose which device would be executing the routine, for me this is the Google Home Mini on the same room as the Tv. Save the routine and test (manipulate the time to test when you want within the time settingof the routine)

I tested this and it works 100% for me.

So I added the shield to Google home on my phone, I set the default player to google music and when I asked the phone a couple of times to "Play music on Shield", nothing happened.

Yep .. oddly enough, even though I have the Shield listed in my devices in my google device list in Google Home Control, it does the same with me. However, my TV also is also listed, so for my setup it seems when I call for my TV to turn on, it is switching the TV on and the Hi-Fi and the Shield. I need to check thoroughly to confirm though. Possibly there is a "wake up on lan" feature within some or all my devices which I possibly have enabled.

My LG Blu-Ray Hi-Fi is also "Smart" with netfix apps & etc, so is my TV. This could be why they all communicate so well with the CEC.

I did this with the TV and Shield off, and with the TV and Shield on.
Google home does not detect my TV (LG65SJ800).

There surely must be a way to power on the Sheild ... Will google that ;-)
I tried to power on my system (TV, Receiver and Shield) with the Shield remote only.
One of the reasons why I am going to reset to factory settings, then get a big flash drive or external SSD, and do what @Vernon posted on it as well.. :)

If you can't power the TV on with the Shield remote, check your settings for CEC on both the TV and Shield...

"You can enable or disable these features by going to Settings -> Display & Sound -> Power Control "

I did all of this at first and it worked.
Going to sort this out tonight from scratch.
