The Official NVidia Shield Thread

As far as I can ascertain, there is no "official " agent for A Shield here. But there are places selling them. So no support anyhow.

So just wondering - for when I am ready to make a move for one.

Support as in you take it to them and they sort it out versus you having to try and manage the RMA process yourself.

Amazon.com is having a 15% up to 20USD items shipping to South Africa discount came out the R3800 or so ... compared to the Gee Wizz.. for 6485? ... even without the discount the amazon order is R4200 or so.

Then it is worthwhile grabbing one from Amazon then

Yeah, well, I sometimes wonder, if some of the local online stores, are worth trying to RMA anything with. Hence my reluctance to by anything of real value from them. Buy affordable stuff, if it bugs out - toss it, buy another, and no train smash.

With the 15% off it is about 66% of the price of the local .. that's 33% off. The type of chip they used the Tegra x1 is also used in the nintendo switch .. for which demand is sky high .. which is why i pulled the trigger rather than wait for BF

The Nvidia Shield tv (cylinder shape) is now on sale on amazon. You get a discount of $20 plus a further discount using the Amazon discount of $20 dollars which brings it to $110. With shipping it takes you to R 2150 delivered to your door

You mean the old one and not the the pro (2019 edition)

Is the remote worth while to get? .
I don't game at all but my 5 years old son might fancy it?

The shield controller is not good rather just connect an Xbox controller.

I got my new Shield Pro on Monday (using the Amazon discount code).

They really nailed the design of the remote this time, you can see they actually thought about ergonomics so it's actually highly usable!

The AI upscaling is actually kind of nice too, didn't think I would use it but on the old DVD rips of DS9 I'm watching it does look cleaner, on badly encoded files it doesn't look great though.

And Dolby Vision in MKV containers works in Plex plus full DV support in Netflix too. I now have very little reason to use the WebOS apps, although the only holdout seems to be that Youtube on the Shield doesn't support HDR yet which the webOS app does.

I don't have time to read the whole thread - thinking about grabbing the Shield on special at Amazon. I currently have 2x Mi Box 3's but find them to be laggy at times and the bluetooth streaming to my JBL headphones has catch-up glitches all the time.

How much better is the Nvidia Shield (non Pro)? Any negatives? Will the 2GB version be too similiar to my Mi Boxes with the same RAM?
