The Official RaspberryPi Thread

Hi Sheikf

Thanks but that doesn't help me as I want to preserve the HDMI video signal and split off the Digital Audio to TOSLink or Co-axial. Looks like I will need to import something to do this.

With my old amp that only had HDMI passthrough, I had to have an optical cable for the sound.
I got a splitter from HD Cabling (was about R800). It took in 4 HDMI and split out to HDMI and Toslink on the output, with a second HDMI only output (we used it for the bedroom TV). Worked well.

That sounds really good! You still using it? PM me if you're interested in selling.

Can someone recommend a power source that provides maximum power to the raspberry pi. I am also looking for a powered USB hub that can support a minimum of 2 external USB powered western digital 1gb hard drives. My os currently sees my current USB hub, picks up the hard drive in the boot sequence, but it is not accessible via xbmc. I need products from SA that is available online. If anyone has any experience with above setup, feel free to comment and suggest alternatives. I've read that the voltage, but more importantly the amps/amperes of power source and USB hub makes a huge difference, as the "recommended" requirements does not provide enough juice....

I'm using a 4-port powered Belkin hub from Dion Wired. It was R250 or something. Just make sure you keep the microUSB powered as the Pi will try boot off the hub's power. I connect 2 drives no problem. I only have 1 external powered drive and 1 2.5" external though. I can't see why you can't just use one of these?

Both my hard drives are USB powered... ( there is no external power source )

I'm not sure of the specs but it will be minimum 500mA per port and 2A overall. Given that a normal USB powered drive works fine from a PC USB port (i.e. 500mA) there should be no problem.

Has anybody been able to obtain a Mpeg2 license key from the RaspberryPi shop? I went through the online shop 2 weeks ago and never received the code so I lodged a complaint with PayPal and the transaction was reversed immediately. I went through the purchase process again over the weekend and still nothing - although they say one should expect the key within 72 hours of ordering.

So I was wondering if anybody else has come right with this?

Ye- I got the Mpeg2 one and the other one (can't remember out my head).
Took quite a while to get the email. I actually forgot I had ordered them it took so long. Was 2 or 3 weeks.
Email did come though, and Pi updated.

I ran across a new shop that holds stock of the Raspberry Pi, so hardly any waiting time from ordering. Its definitely worth a look if you are like me and don't like the waiting time etc.

They processed my order and I could collect on the same day. They also do deliveries but I was in the area so didn't need to use that facility.

Definitely worth a look if you don't want to wait: http://www.pifactory.co.za/

My codes for the 2 codecs came through quite quickly. Bought it in December - was ordered on a Saturday and codes were emailed to me on the Monday.

I managed to get my pi working: used my ipad 3 wall charger adapter with my htc hd2 phone USB to micro USB cable. I was amazed to notice that my external western digital USB powered 1gb hard drive (containing all my movies) worked straight from the pi's USB port without using an (additional) powered USB hub. The other USB port on the pi is used for my wireless keyboard/mouse combo; but I want to change that to a Logitech harmony remote control. I need help choosing/finding a good USB wifi adapter that provides good strength/reception to my router which is about 6-8 meters away from my TV/raspberry pi, I am using a tenda which keeps disconnecting, also my wireless access point (at the tv) is too weak to connect to my router. There is only one wall between the lounge and the router ( telkom's cheap white unit)

The Camera module is out ... 25USD excl VAT. It was listed at the local RS site yesterday as coming soon, today I found the item. I was not logged in and the price was shown as R224.42 excl which fits with the ZAR/USD exchange rate of approx R9/$ After logging in it shows the price as R299.99 excl. When I went to check out the item, it lists the price as R224, you pay R299.99

There is some text that displays "discountAgreement" on the product page, now I am trying to figure out if R299.99 is early adopter pricing "discount" to the normal price of R224.42.

What is the status on your order, did they confirm a delivery date? I see they are indicating 2/10/2103 on the RS site :(

I want one or two but October is a long way off...

Thanks, will check it out.

EDIT: I was looking for the camera module, not the Pi itself. Not listed on either site.

Hi all,

I saw the pishop advertised the Pi Zero2 waiting for ICASA's approval. Do any of you know how long such an approval would take? maybe have a contact at ICASA to give me an indication on the estimated time of approval?

Keep well!

Its usually around 30 days but can go longer.

I think the Pishop's website is outdated. They (other retailers) have also been waiting for ICASA approval for quite a while, I've been watching them with interest forsome time as I'm interested in getting a few for some projects. 2 weeks ago I saw that an online store started to sell their stock, but I didn't want to buy yet as I wanted to shop around and do some comparisons. On Monday I wanted to pull the trigger, and everything was sold out already.

Point being, I think ICASA approval is already completed, and stock has gone out.

Thanks.

It's been more than 30 days already. I ordered them on 22 November 2021. keeping mind there was a month of holiday, so guessing they did not do much in Dec.

hoping it will be soon.
