Thought we should start one in the vein of other hardware threads like Galaxy S3 etc.

Been thinking about case ideas so I Googled Raspberry Pi DIY case and came across this gem:

Aahh that is brilliant, I'm waiting for mine to arrive next week. Now just to go get all the nuts and bolts.
How to you think they made the little feet for under the PC board?

I'm glad you like my case ;) I made them out of a CD case cover like this one:

Just cut the L-shaped plastic bits with a box cutter and glued them to the base

Thanks Bushki, and welcome to MyBroaband.co.za :) Did you just eyeball (guess) the placement of those little L-shaped plastic bits or did you use a stencil of some sort?

that is such an awesome idea for a case. that gave me a couple of ideas as well. :)

now if mine would only arrive

The underside of the Pi board is quite crowded on the edges with soldered items so there isn't too many places where you can put the supporting bits if you don't want to interfere with the parts on the board. First I drilled the holes for the screws and placed the screws in place so I could arrange the board between them to have access to all the connectors. Then while keeping the board in place I started looking for places where to put the bits and just started to glue them on one after another. This way the board fits in between the bits precisely and it holds the board in place so you can plug/unplug peripherals easily without the need to disassemble the case ;)

As I think afterwards it would be probably better to first glue the bits on and drill afterwards :)

came up with an awesome idea.

now just to source a nice thick piecie of clear perspex.

This is the case that I made.

It looks a lot less rough than is really is, I took an old case for a door bell chime and hacked at it with box cutters and a leather man.
Took about an hour and almost cost me a finger but was just essentially something to protect the board until I get a better case.

My main issue us that the board slides round inside, I need to create internal supports to keep it in place.

I also need to add some kind of power switch !

Nice! What would you put the switch on? The USB cord or before that?

I just ordered the case on the raspberry pi when I ordered my pi. They have 3 cases now. satin black, white and clear plastic case. I took the clear case cause it looks cool.

Now the long wait I think.

Can someone please suggest a SD Card, I basically just need to know which Class would be better...

Guys not sure if this is the right place to ask, I know very little about this hardware trying to learn.
So basically it is a small device that acts like a mini pc, what software is it able to run? Linux?
Would it run on the SD card?

I see it does not have WIFI, is that correct?
Would be nice to use it as a media player

Nope, though you get quite cheap wifi usb dongles.
