So what's the consensus on the best place to buy?

I would suggest trying Farnell first. They are represented by Electrocomp locally.

From all reports here it seems the service from RS Components locally specifically for this product has gone to pot.

My pi stopped playing media last night, i can still browse my server, just when I select the file to play all it does is say "Working"... Any ideas?

Ok. So R470 sound right. I'm assuming the inflated price (compared to the official 25USD) is due to customs + delivery? I also need to buy a power supply and SD card if I'm going to run openelec. Correct?

Maybe read the requirements again. You won't run anything without power and an SD card.

It's a little on the high side I agree, but all costs you mention are included. Other option is R300 at RS Components, but then you will wait until April 2013, according to the ordering page on the website. So it depends how long you are prepared to wait against the increased cost.

As xera said, you, you will also need those items, but you may have something suitable lying around in the form of a suitable PSU and old SD card from a phone, so ja.

What OS are you running?

Im running OpenElec on my pi.

At the same time my MicroServer running XBMC on Win7 completely reset XBMC to stock, all customisations gone, settings back to default and skin changed back to Confluence. Very Odd!!

I got my pi finally when i fetched it at the post office.....

Ordered my Pi on 6 July 2012 and fetched it @ the post office 1st December 2012

WOW what a delay... I did manage to get upgraded to the 512mb version. raspbmc works great on it......

Just got mine too. Well I have to pick it up today. Pay any customs fees on it? Seems I have to pay R416.46...

I paid R85 or so at the post office when picking mine up. Why's yours so expensive?

My Custom duties was R311.13. I still think they made a mistake...the package estimated value was GBP 35.00

Customs on Raspberries are free. No import tax. If you were charged something, it's because the delivery dude was scamming you.

Delivery dude is the post office in my case. And they said it was SARS so unless theres a 450% duty fee on an SD card, the Pi also has import tax. Although, looking at SA customs, its probably the 450%...

I paid R68.15 custom fees for mine..... I had a clear case, power supply, my pi in my package.... It was also opened and it was sealed again with white tape that has blue writing on it saying SARS Custom Office Durban......

Hmmm ok

If anyone is interested I ordered mine in June and picked it up last month at the post office. Doubt if I’ll get time to take a look at it, to busy at the moment and instead want to sell. Any takers can PM me, I’m in Cape Town and all in all it came out to R700 –that’s for 1 x PI / 1 x PI Case / 1 x 220V Power Adaptor / 1 x 3.5mm Stereo to Twin RCA Cable (1metre) / 1 x Lan Cable. / 1 x 4GB SD Card.
