Here are my shoes at the beginning of this year. The V9 now has toe holes, the V10 doesn't (it seems a bit better protected).

That's some high mileage on those shoes. When I bought mine I was told to replace them at around 500kms. I've done over 800kms on my Kayanos and I'm starting to get foot pain.

Currently have fitbit.

But I am ... burning ... to go Apple Watch (since I have apple everywhere else)

I had a Fitbit Versa 2 which was great for gym but was a pain when I used it for runs as it had to connect to the phone for GPS. Switched to a Garmin Vivoactive 4 about a year and a half ago and love it. The Garmin app is better than the Fitbit one, including the workouts and training plans.

True, the new Fitbit has built-in GPS

I took what you guys said and today, instead of running fast and then walking slow, I tried to do a brisk 30-minute walk @ ±5kph to get better endurance-wise.

Basically did some weights
Then did 5 minutes of bicycle to warm the legs up
and then did the 30-minute main course meal.

It was a killer.

Here's a mid-walk selfie of Thor, without the hair. (you can see the tiredness in my eyes)

I got a Garmin Forerunner 745 on the ebucks store for a very good deal. Can’t wait for Wednesday. I have a feeling I’ll be breaking all sorts of personal records.
I bought the Garmin Instinct, the Garmin app is great, also love the fact that it synchs automatically, as well as software updates and GPS-A updates.

Linked the Garmin App to Strava, which is also putting some pressure on me to push harder, not to be embarrassed by my followers (all 3 of them).

Lovely! I’ve had Garmin Connect but was syncing via Apple.

What watch were you using before?

I had the Polar M400, but it was 3 years old, battery was never impressive on it, and the fact that you had to connect it to the PC to sync GPS-A was a pain.

To be honest, I'm a pureist, never relied on tech for telematry, ran with entry level shoes until they disintegrate (ran Comrades in 5 year old Asics), I guess I always knew that the limit was my body and not my gear. But the watch has grown on me, I have learnt to use it to my benefit, and it's shown me how little I sleep :(

You seem like an old school no nonsense runner. Massive contrast to me - but I respect the OG runners I see on the street.

How long have you been running?

I'm only 35

Running seriously for probably around 15 years now, but also cycle a lot, hike, and do quite a bit of trail running, which as of late is my favorite.

Would love to try a triathlon one day, but I am a very weak swimmer, and would probably have to invest a lot of time in learning to swim properly.

Ai jirre

I went and registered on https://www.myrun.org.za/ & paid them for the fitines tracker band thing they use, because Discovery Vitality will give me 300 points of reach run.

After I registered & paid money, they come back to say sorry MyRun is closed indefinitely due to covid.

Strava is a good motivator. Most people prefer consistency and distance over speed.

Your biomechs means your toe scrapes along the inside everytime you land and toe off.
I suggest you cut up an old piece of leather patch and glue from the inside, before it starts to look unsightly. Still lots of miles left on it.
What about stitching it?
