The official running thread™

Did the Atlantic Beach Hotel 15km in Mekbosstrand on the weekend, was such a nice race. Very well organised and enjoyed it a lot. Very happy with my time here especially considering I didn't even hit Zone 5 once during the race i.e. was taking it steady and easy

Mybb got a lot of fit runners yoh!

Kaapsehoop next weekend. We did our last long run on Sunday, 02h01 for the 21km, hoping we can do a sub 2 hour. It's all down hill you know. /s

The marathon profile looks rather downhill to me. A few of my friends PB is from kaapsehoop. I plan on running it next year to check it out myself.

It is all down, but those downs sap the life from your quads, and then you have the short punchy climbs in the hills. The last 3km is basically uphill from Nelspruit to the stadium.

I hate uphills at the end! But for a half I think quads should last? Little climbs not so bad, using different muscle group.

I did kaapsehoop 42km before covid and it is an awesome race. The last 7kms are pretty tough long rolling hills before the climb to mbombela stadium, its hot (when I did it) 33+ degrees and humid.

You can run 30secs faster per km in general for that race so you should break sub 2hours.

I did end up running with wild horses which was awesome.

ITB confirmed by the Physio. Needles, ultrasound, lots of massaging, tablets, tape + new stretches to try out.

Lot of knots in my hip flexor area(left leg has ITB).
Sucks to hear that. I've been there; it's awful. Do a lot of core strength work too. A weak core affects form which leads to things like ITB.

Speedy recovery!

Financially says a no lol.
Don't be discouraged from running by all the hype. The run analysis doesn't really apply to novices/beginners but somehow they'll make you think you can't run unless you fork out 5k for Vaporflys.
Add the Kalenji Run100 for like R300 bucks to your rotation. It trumps all the other shoes due to how light it is, possibly the most important factor when it comes to shoes.

Slowly returning to running by trying the Maffetone method. In theory this should build my aerobic base and keep me injury free. Although I'm recovering quicker, my pace for an avg HR of 146(180-34) is 8:30/km which is very slow for me, but I'll persevere at least till I feel 100% again. Regardless I do trust the method, it's just new to me that's all.

I'm closing in on a year after my accident 10 Dec and I think for the first time I'm really starting to feel better.

Last week I played squash on monday, a 8km at 4.45 on Tues was at my limit, speed repeats on Wed just under 10km, 7km at 6:30 with my wife on thursday, 15km on Sat at 6min/km which was a constant pace up and downhills, played a game of paddle later that day and on Sunday I did a 80km cycle at 25.5km/hour which was the group speed.

I can probably do a 5km at 4.15-4.30 (still 30secs off last years best) but have 94.7 comming up and don't want to break anything. Hoping for a 3:30 94.7 but if I have a good day I can do a 3:15.

Next year if I don't injure anything and training goes well, Comrades.

Slowly + steadily coming right. Run-walking on a treadmill is sub 8mins/km whilst sub 146bpm and I'm recovering really quick from the niggles.

Another cool thing was that I volunteered at the local parkrun yesterday for the first time, as a timer, and really enjoyed it. The cherry on top was my gf getting a new PB! Best seat in the house for that.
