The official running thread™

Sprinted on tarred road but there was loose dirt on the surface after rains. Shoes slipped and I took a tumble. Skinned both knees badly and my left palm had a considerable crater taken out of it.
Not sure any shoe could save you from taking that fall in those conditions. Sorry bro.

Give them one more chance in the dry 👀

No, I think I wasn't being clear. It was completely dry. It had rained a couple days prior and the water deposited some loose sand (topsoil) onto the tarred road. It was at an intersection so where the rainwater runoff accumulated there was a patch of sand. Once I hit the (dry) outskirts of the patch of sand the shoe lost traction and I took a tumble.

Compared to Puma (for example) the 860 has no grip whatsoever.

Garmin actually made me do two threshold sessions in one week.
Threshold session yesterday (previous one was on Tuesday).

Intervals are slightly slower. It seems "off-leash dog guy" now has it in for me. Surprisingly he actually had his dog on a leash. Each time I went past him he swore at me under his breath. During my second run interval he was coming down the road on the left side, I was running upwards on the right side. The idiot then deliberately crossed the road dragging the dog on the leash directly into my path and told me to "piss off" (still under his breath, but loud enough that I could hear). I managed to dodge around them and, as I ran past, just told him he could say whatever he wants, but thanks for keeping the dog on the leash.

Not quite sure how to handle the situation. It wasn't at an intersection. He saw me coming at speed and decided to move directly into my way. I'm not keen on changing my schedule or route just to avoid the guy.

Damn...that's not nice. Some people are just nuts.

Indeed. I'm just gonna try to ignore the guy. I can take the verbal abuse and intimidation, but if he keeps getting in the way trying to cause physical harm it's going to be an issue.

My HR also now spikes each time I encounter him. I jumped to 183 from a steady 175 when he stepped Infront of me.

If you have a action camera or something, maybe put one on you and film him when you get to that area and if he keep harassing you, open a case of harassment. Sometimes you just have to stoop to their level of petty.

I just confirmed with my husband, who is a lawyer and you are well within your rights to open a case of harassment.

Hopefully it doesn't escalate to that. I don't have a action camera, but I could start running with my phone or buy one if really needed.

It's just a sucky situation adding extra anxiety to my runs.

Takealot has the Puma Velocity Nitro 5 on special for R1999. It's the lowest I've seen them. (And of course the price dropped a week after I got mine for considerably more).

If you go for the red ones be aware that they are VERY bright. Tempted to grab a black pair now...
How are they? I was looking at them but created a new Takealot account got 15% discount code then used my Miles for 20% off so paid like R1700 odd for a deviant nitro 4 in ultra red 😂

Was tempted to get the VN5s though would have been R1300 odd with miles

I really like them. Have done 3 runs in them so far and they work very well for me. Not too cushioned and just the right amount of ground feel I like. They also work well for my midfoot strike. The tongue is more padded than the Pure Nitro which is good. Fit is great and better than the VN4.

I ordered a black pair too. I mean they ARE on special...

I found the VN4s a bit too narrow for my liking. Got the hyrox one at like R1500 or so on special but returned them because my feet just with them on were rubbing on the outer upper.

Exactly. The VN4 was a bust for me too. Too narrow in the midfoot, if felt as if I was falling off the soles. The VN5 fixes that and feels more accommodating and plush. If the Deviate 4 works for you I think the VN5 should too since the Pure Nitro has the same shape/form as the Deviate 4 and (for me) the Pure Nitro and VN5 are very similar.

I only tried on the D4 have not taken it for a spin but this is planned to be my Hyrox shoe.

Picked up a clifton 10 from my work so need to break that in as well. I sold a few of my older pairs of shoes recently so kinda replacing them haha 😄

My thoughts exactly. I mean I wasn't even being rude to the guy, just stated the facts after his dog almost attacked someone else's dog. And now he looks like he's got a vendetta against me. Sad little man.

I actually need to take out my Deviate 3s more. I've only put 36km on them.

Obviously he took it the wrong way.... Oh well just ignore him.
