Lavezzi the letter writer opens the door to Liverpool - 24 hours after pledging future to Napoli

Reported Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi seems ever more likely to be heading out of Napoli after writing a letter to fans in which he claims to have been treated with a lack of respect by the club.

The striker, who is under contract at the Serie A side until 2012, insisted yesterday (Monday) he wants to remain at Napoli despite reported interest from the Reds.

However, the 24-year-old looks to have changed his mind amid reports of a falling out with sporting director Pierpaolo Marino.

'I'm writing this letter to the fans who have always been close to me,' read Lavezzi's letter.

'It's a difficult time and I hope that soon the situation will become clearer as much for you as for me.

'The only sure thing is that one day there won't be either Lavezzi or Marino but there will always be this great club and this immense city simply because Napoli does not belong to anyone, it represents the synthesis of the sentiment of their fans' dignity.

'Today I have to choose between dignity and a lack of respect, because of my loyalty to my upbringing without doubt I choose dignity.'

Reports in Italy suggest Lavezzi's representatives met with Manchester United chiefs in Madrid with a view to a move to Old Trafford.

The Argentina forward's agent claims he has an offer on the table from a big club but insists nothing has been decided yet.

'This is not a goodbye letter,' Alejandro Mazzoni told Sky Italia. 'He was thinking about leaving an explanation for the fans, who are important for him.

'He never said he wanted to leave Napoli. There is a very real offer from a team who are playing in the Champions League and where he would earn much more than here.

'Marino had a strategy for arriving at the end of the season but he has not respected anything of what he promised.

'The lad wants to stay at Napoli. But for him what's more important is dignity which is above contracts, national teams, money - above everything.

'If it was for the city and fans he would stay, 100 per cent, but if it was for the relationship between us and the directors, it would be close to zero.'

Yeah, he's having his medical right now so it's a done deal. Happy as it means we won't be getting him.

I had a lot of respect for Barry as he clearly said he wanted to only move from Villa to a team who can offer champions league football but now he shows his true colors, the greedy so and so. He is getting a 60k increase from what he was getting at Villa. Money talks yet again.

Agreed. Seems Alonso will be staying then

Confirmed:

Barry completes £12m move to Manchester City

Gareth Barry has complered his surprise move from Aston Villa to Manchester City for a fee of £12m.

The 28-year-old England international was heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool last summer but the Reds were unwilling to meet Villa's asking price of £18m.

Barry had been offered a lucrative new deal to keep him at Villa Park while manager Martin O'Neill and Villa owner Randy Learner had both said they would be willing to run down the 28-year-old's existing contract if it meant keeping him for another season.

Barry has previously expressed his desire to join a club in the Champions League but City finished six places and 22 points behind this season's top four, all of whom qualified for Europe's top club competition.

City did not even qualify for next season's revamped Europa League with Everton, Villa and Fulham claiming the three places for English clubs.

Ya, they really needed to build on what they already had - not ship out their best player. They have already lost Laursen, which was a huge cost.

Yeah it's pity because O'Neil is building up a very good side based on local talent and not going mad spending the money.

Looks like its gonna be on like donkey kong :D
Perez is one crazy old geezer. Still wants Cristiano Ronaldo as well. Has 200-300 millions Euros to burn this summer

Lol. Thanks for the update. Perez is crazy man. This is the guy that signed Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo and whoever else was hot at that time. Looks like money is no option to him.
