The Official Xiaomi Thread

Yes many people have used Gearbest and priority shipping.

Priority Line will be shipped with Aramex. Be aware that you will still need to pay customs, VAT, import duties once the package arrives in SA. Aramex will send you the invoice for this.

Gearbest also has a rep on these forums who is very helpful. You can speak to him for assistance.

Thanks Abdul

Mi Max 3 is official: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_max_3_arrives_5500_mah_battery-news-32299.php

I'm ordering one, but I can't decide whether there is any benefit in getting the 6GB version for about $50 more. My Mi A1 averages 2.2GB Ram usage so I really can't figure out how 6GB Ram can be better than 4GB. Am I missing something? Will the phone be faster with 2GB spare even though it never reaches 4GB usage? the extra 64GB of storage space would probably just sit in my pocket unused, so the RAM is what I need to decide on.

4 or 6?

I also wouldn't see the benefit of having it unless you play games with a lot of resource files or multitask the entire day, but at least a 6GB one should have slightly better resale value if you choose to upgrade down the line.

played with my mipad 4 and i must say im loving it! just waiting for my flipcase to arrive for it as its a bit slippery in hand and im very afraid to drop it.

took me some time to get all the play services on it and to get it all english but not too bad

was a bit suprized a few obvious apps like hulu and netflix i had to sideload as the playstore reckons its not compatible with my mipad but it all works perfectly.

the build is awesome, the screen is beautiful and can go quite bright, the speakers arent tinny sounding and its fast and fluid

It's not just the RAM that is bigger, the ROM is 64 GB on the smaller model, and 128 GB on the more expensive one. For only $ 50.00 extra to get double the ROM and 2 GB extra RAM, yes it is very well worth the cost. 128 GB is the perfect size for me, I find 64 GB starts to fill up, after adding music, pictures, videos, apps etc etc

I will absolutely be buying the black Mi Max 3, 6/128 GB. My Mi Max 2 has been such an amazing phone that I will buy the Mi Max 3 without reading reviews or "umming and ahhing"

Then why not just keep the Mi max 2 for another year?

- For many reasons - my Mi Max 2 only has 64 GB ROM, and I want 128 GB
- Mi Max 3 has smaller bezels - same physical size as Mi Max 2 but has 6.99" display as opposed to 6.4" on Mi Max 2
- Bigger battery than Mi Max 2
- Newer MIUI version
- wireless battery charging on Mi Max 3

etc etc etc

Mi Max 3 does not have wireless charging

MIUI 10 Beta Global on Mi Max 32 Hydrogen:

I took the plunge to play with the Beta ROM's, and to say the least, I really like what they intend with MIUI 10, below a brief review.

For starters, they are designing around big screens now :D it no longer looks like a small phone screen enlarged to fit the bigger screen. Side by side comparison, font and icon sizes are almost the same, but they are fitting more icons onto the screen, you can view more info, eg contacts. Now the big screen phones will look a bit more "professional" looking, giving you a sense of feeling, that you have indeed bought a big screen phone :D

For now MIUI 10 is based on Android 7, I'm hoping this will be on Android 8 when it becomes out of Beta.
Calculator has some improvements done to it.
Swiping from the bottom brings up a Search screen.
I get the sense, the finish in the GUI is kinda like mimicking the Apple GUI, kind of a bit a fresh air compared to the old 2D look.
Battery drain is comparable and acceptable.
Swiping from Left to Right brings up the common tasks etc, as in MIUI 9 but more refined in the GUI.

These are the changes I have been able to observe so far and I'm liking it. In fact, I'm liking it more than I did going from MIUI 8 to MIUI 9. I am using this ROM as a daily driver and I have not had any issues with it so far being so young in Beta. All my favorite Apps and Games play just nicely, no hiccups.

I am currently running the Microsoft launcher on the Note 4 which also allows me to make the icons and texts smaller and allows up to six icons side by side. I have to say the MS launcher gives the Note 4 a slightly more professional feel to it.

Any idea how long it takes a Xiaomi device to go from chinese rom launch --> Global Rom?

Trying to gauge how long it will take Gearbest to start selling Global Rom Mi Max 3's.....

Second question to those that have bought a chinese ROM Xiaomi - how bad is it? Would you buy one again or wait for Global Rom?

Pro's and Cons?

Much less bloat than the Global version but installing the Play store is a bit of a schlep. You can just buy the Chinese one and flash the global rom afterwards.

Hate it when a screen just randomly cracks! Was watching tv last night when the screen just melted.

lol I held it as a torch, it was laying sideways on the floor, it fell and cracked. It was literally on the floor already... not a long falling distance.
