The Official Xiaomi Thread

Here's a price list I got from a shop in Indonesia for the phones they have in stock (take the 000 off the end and the price is almost exactly in Rand. So basically, 2,000,000 Rupiah is R2,000)

REDMI 6A 2/16 Rp. 1.199.000
REDMI 7 2/16 Rp. 1.609.000
REDMI 7 3/32 Rp. 1.829.000
REDMI 7 3/64 (BLACK Rp. 1.949.000) (RED Rp. 1.999.000)
REDMI NOTE 5 PRO 4/64 (GOLD Rp. 1.989.000) (BLACK Rp. 2.089.000)
REDMI NOTE 6 PRO 4/64 Rp. 2.299.000
REDMI NOTE 7 4/64 (BLACK Rp. 2.649.000) (BLUE Rp. 2.729.000)
REDMI NOTE 7 4/128 Rp. 2.999.000
REDMI NOTE 7 6/64 Rp. 3.279.000
REDMI S2 4/64 Rp. 1.979.000
MI PLAY 4/64 (BLACK Rp. 1.799.000) (BLUE Rp. 1.809.000)
MI 8 LITE 6/128 Rp. 3.349.000
MI A2 LITE 3/32 Rp. 1.619.000
MI A2 LITE 4/64 Rp. 1.899.000

Just shows you how much we get ripped off in SA. Look at that Mi A2 lite, nearly half the price of Takealot regular price and R1100 cheaper than even direct from the Mi store.

Wish they'd come up with a better naming standard, I'll be needing a replacement soon. My screen is finally cracked (baby bit it)

Good stuff. I have a similar MI security cam and it works very well.
I bought one of those "Mi Home Security Camera 1080p" units recently. On occasion I get an error message when I try to log in that it "Supports simultaneous remote viewing by up to 3 users" thereby implying that I cant log in because 3 other users are already connected. I am the only one that is supposed to have access to it, so this is somewhat concerning. Have you seen this before?

Edit: it seems to happen when I let it sleep and try to wake it up again. Aplying a password didn't seem to help. I will have to test some more.

Not seen that, but I have the option to share devices.

I should have worded it better. It comes up with an error implying that It doesn't allow any more users to connect because 3 users are already logged in.

That could be a problem :D

I've blocked all my IoT and camera's from having direct access to the internet.

I found a recent camera I bought attempting to connect to various sites - I also noticed you could connect to the camera over the net with just the serial number, and the manufacturers site - no password required.

 what brand was that?

The problem seems related to its sleep mode setting. I got the error again when I woke it up, and tried to connect to it - so maybe its a bug. I will have to test some more.

I know that these wont be 100% safe & have read reports of malicious activities on some cheap Chinese cams (even some branded ones). I don't want to jump hoops thought and I am not even sure if this camera supports any 3rd party or open source streaming protocols. Its a risk that I will have to live with (The same goes for mobile phones...).

I guess I can point it to the wall or turn it off when I don't want it to spy on me
I saw that even the new Google nest hub max has a physical switch that physically disconnects the camera from power when you don't want it to spy on you.

Careful buying any surveillance appliances on third party reseller websites. Its quite common that they get fitted with backdoors among various other exploits.

Aliexpress have some really dodgy sellers.

Yip - hence me blocking the devices from internet access.

I'd ideally one day have them all on their own isolated network with controlled access.

I was refunded for this camera - but it was an uphill battle, the seller kept ignoring the dispute, when aliexpress ruled in my favour, the seller would suddenly respond wanting videos and pictures - aliexpress would then change their judgement - I'd provide what he wanted - he'd ignore it again - and aliexpress would rule in my favour, he'd then respond again wanting more "proof" - aliexpress would reverse judgement. Bit of a wake-up call to how their dispute process works.

The last round he uploaded a video, speaking in mandarin - then upload a picture of instructions also in mandarin - I simply responded I don't understand what he wants, and he's deliberately responded like this knowing I won't understand. He ignored my response, and they finally, to my surprise, ruled in my favour.

(I translated the image of instruction - he basically wanted me to run a network cable to the camera - instead of using wifi, but I'd already told him that doesn't work as the camera doesn't function without a wifi connection)

May be good to name and shame so that others don't buy the same crap.

Devices phoning home for 'telemetry' or what not always worries me a bit but these days there are probably very few companies that actually don't sell your data. Very few people these days read the EULA's anyway.

Here's an example of some queries. Xiaomi is up on there as well with a lot of stuff trying to be sent. For reference, the IP of 10.0.0.110 is my Redmi Note 5. Hoping Tapatalk doesn't gimp the image quality too much:

Which Xiaomi would be best between R3000 and R4000. Will be a daily driver. Something with nice battery and good camera.

Also, where to buy in SA

Used SUSRepairs to get my Mi6 fixed. It's coming tomorrow.
Will do a full test tomorrow.
