The Official Xiaomi Thread

Maybe contact them and ask but my mom's Redmi 8 came with a clear silicone case and a screen protector in the box - so it may save you some bucks if this is the case with the Redmi 8 too.

@BradleyKZN, did yours have any goodies inside the box when you received it?
Mine came with a screen protector and a clear silicon case as well.
Ordered a more solid case from Takealot though.

Currently on a Xiaomi Redmi A4

Any suggestions for my next Xiaomi device?

Am thinking of the Redmi 6 32Gb or Redmi 8 64Gb.
I have redmi 8 4GB/64GB. It's a couple of weeks old. The best thing of the phone is battery. Even with dual sim, I can 2 days easily. Screen is ok . Processor is fine for general everyday use. Brilliant phone does what is supposed to, as basic android device. Honestly step up to the Note 8, if budget allows. It big jump in performance for a couple hundred more rands.

If you've used other usb-c cables other then the original, do you have any charging issues with it? Like needing to swap the sides of the cable to get it to charge?

Also I forgot to mention, the Redmi 9A has just been launched. So that is another option if you saying within that price range. But I don't think it's worthwhile to upgrade to a 8A from a 6A.

So all cables you've tried have worked without the need to fiddle and change the orientation of the cable?
Yeah no need to fiddle with them. Are your cables old? Sometimes over time there's wear and tear on these cables. The connectors/pin become warped/bent. Happens with USB mini too. Many charger cables thrown away.

Anyone have an issue where downloads don't work? Can't download anything on my Note 8.

Play store just says "Waiting for download"

File URLs "Couldn't download"

Gmail attachments wont open

System Update just sits at 0%

Tried different internet connections yet? (e.g. wifi and / or mobile data) to exclude that as a cause? Also maybe restarting the phone?

Found the issue, doesn't like the always on VPN AND also flat out ignores downloading over mobile. Had to disconnect from the VPN - and connect to Wifi

I bought a Redmi 8 from TakeaLot before Xmas, a lovely phone but freezes when playing a few games of solitaire, whereas my 4A did not.

Looks like Xiaomi have addressed the no. 1 complaint that people had and updated MIUI to now have an app drawer. Complete with categories and search at the bottom.

No, they both generally new. Thanks for the response. Still under warranty, maybe will ask FNB for a replacement to mitigate future potential charging issues.
