The Official Xiaomi Thread

Any recommendations for a good wall charger for a Xiaomi phone? I seem to have lost mine somehow. It would be great to get one asap as I doubt the battery will last another month.

Hi folks, has anybody ordered from https://smartphoneshop.co.za? Are they reliable?

I see they stock the Xiaomi door/window sensor and motion sensors which I need more of, so want to order after lockdown - not interested in going the gearbest, banggood, aliexpress options.

They're great. Don't know what their lockdown restrictions are, but before this they were fantastic

No problems. I just got an email from Gearbest that my tablet has been shipped after 2 months waiting. Wonder how long it will take to get here...

I have been buying from Gearbest for about 5 years now. They have become VERY slow lately. Two year ago I placed an order for a bunch of stuff - it arrived after 2 months. One year later I get a notification to fetch a parcel, to my surprise it was part of what I ordered one year previously and I had forgotten/ did not know that they had not completed my order a year previously.
My last order was end of January for about 15 items. One item was sent right away, then 2 weeks later they sent a second item. Now 3 months after order, the bulk of my January order has still not been sent. I think this might be my last order from Gearbest

I think they send out bulk orders in parts deliberately to avoid holdup at customs because a 15 piece order would have gotten all of the items held up indefinitely at customs until you show up with a registered importers license.

Maybe gearbest understand the customs conditions imposed in SA and this is their way of partially working around it to prevent holdups that just ends up being charged backed or refund requests issued due to non delivery.

I don't live in South Africa, I'm from Kenya, East Africa. Second, I can understand them sending bulk orders in separate batches, but when it is 2-4 months apart, that is odd. And with one of my orders, they sent a year later than the rest of the order

Hey all, need a new phone. Budget is important - will mostly be used to WhatsApp, browse the web and watch Youtube. I see the Redmi Note 8 has decent reviews and a good spec list. Thoughts on it as a phone? Worth R3.2k?

Edit: I also hate sluggishness on phone UIs, if that's worth anything.

For that price, you are getting a lot. I would go for it if you are not keen to import.

Can't go wrong with note 8.

I had p smart 2019 and note 7 last year.
P Smart was just rubbish overall compared to Xiaomi. The performance and camera was noticeably worse.

At r3000 price range the few choice you have is:
Galaxy A20
Huawei Y -something/ p smart
Xiaomi note 8

Xiaomi note 8 at that price range is the best phone you can get.

This **** really annoys the **** out of me with Xiaomi. This is after already waiting a week - and now having to do it again because some random account issue.

Why the **** they make this **** so difficult is beyond me.
