The Official Xiaomi Thread

Wonder if the MI 11 or Pro will be officially brought in?

Looks really good
Ya is a shame we only get a few of the more entry/mid level Xiaomi's officially in South Africa. They make amazing phones but seems most models, especially the flagships, only get released in China. Hopefully this will soon change

Does anyone know where to buy an original Xiaomi battery?

I contacted MIA, the distributors for Xiaomi in South Africa but they don't stock parts and said I should try Takealot
When i was looking for a screen i came across only 2 places that had spares (apart from bangood and gearbest which don't currently seem to ship anything xiaomi related to SA). The one escapes me now but the other was Sunsky

Came across another i forgot about, but not sure if they are reputable or not. Pricing doesnt look too bad either. Dailysteal. Maybe someone here can confirm if they are legit

Well, this took forever.

Unlocked the bootloader on ye old Mi 5 so I can install Lineage on it. Had multiple Chinese error messages that came up during the process and it took awhile to figure out I somehow had 2 Xiaomi Mi accounts! No idea how and the one was locking the other one out. Once I had the correct accounts logged in on the phone and the unlock app, it went pretty smoothly. No waiting periods anymore, it seems. Thanks, Chinese overlords.

Anyway, has anyone here installed Lineage on a Xiaomi before? Anything I should look out for?

Howzit guys. I read that MIUI Optimization can bet turned off and this will prevent MIUI from killing apps and prevent push notifications etc. It can however then increase battery usage if you turn it off. I decided to turn mine off just to make sure my push notifications etc works like it should on Android.

Give me your feedback. Do you have MIUI Optimization on or off?

I've turned off the optimisations so all the push notifications, widgets (for whatsapp) and location etc work and battery still lasts very long. Didn't notice any real difference in battery performance

Ja, I cant say for sure if my battery is worse or not. I only got the phone yesterday and last night was first full charge so I dont really have anything to compare it to. The Redmi 9C does have a 5000mah battery though so I am not all that worried about it.

Ya rather have a phone that does all you need it too as it will still easily get you through the day even with heavy usage. I have the poco f2 pro, which has a smaller batter 4700mah and still get 1.5 days, and can push it to 2 days if light use.

Though there is no need, I haven't turned Optimisation off and I have no problem with apps staying alive and instant push notifications. You can adjust those settings in App settings, works fine and I have apps that have to stay alive to work properly eg Ring Video and VOIP and apps that give instant push notifications like two of my banks that do instant notifications for every transaction.

I had mine off for about 2 hours after 2 years of having it on. Will probably never switch it off again! Everything just felt wrong, basic and like primary school. Yuk!!!

Note that app preferences are reset for many apps when Optimisation is switched on again...

Maybe I am misunderstanding, is there an overall optimisation switch that can be turned on or off? I was referring to individual app settings/preferences to get things working like I wanted them. For example my whatsapp widget, the one that shows the messages, never updated and always just showed no new messages. Had to tweak some things to get it updating properly.

It's in developer mode. There is a switch there that turns all optimization OFF or ON.
Ah ok, I haven't touched that at all. Rather just adjust individual app settings as needed as I did find some battery optimisations quite aggressive

Ah. You were referring to battery optimisation. Yep, I switch that off for apps that I want to send notifications.

Miui Optimisations is a very different beast

Ya I was talking about battery optimisations, didn't know about MIUI optimisations

I was looking at getting a Note 9s end of last year, but I see they are no longer in stock. MIA only has the 64gb one left. Will they be coming back or are they discontinued. What is the best value phone now? The new Note 9 seems to be similar but a bit lower specced?

Not sure
I am leaning towards the 9 Pro 64GB one as it is under R6k
My Note 6 is still doing well but Im running out of internal storage badly as I am running dual sim with dual apps as well (work & personal)
I need a phone with bigger internal storage

Yeah, which is why I want the 128gb version.

That would be nice but it was approaching the R10k mark if I remember correctly. It would be nice but it isnt necessary for me. And I see Takealot no longer has the 128GB model
