    When did that happen????
Well if it did not happen for you it applies to me and I'm sure to the majority of mybb users ;)

The 10 Lite also currently costs much more than the poco x3:

edit: I see it is about 1k cheaper on the .co.uk site but it mentions it is the uk version so not sure if it will properly work in SA anyways.

UK version will work perfectly in SA (it's actually an EEA version just with Brit plug).

Xiaomi prices are like a brides nightie on wedding night at the moment, they are fluctuating by 40-50% for a number of models. mi 10T lite has been bouncing up and down between £190 to £270 recently. Mi10 lite to a slightly lesser amount.

Even the Mi10 Pro (iirc) has been bouncing between 350 and 550 over the last month or so. UK and Euro pricing.

The rand has also weakened since end of last year - so most phones are more expensive. The poco x3 is still about R2k cheaper than the 10 Lite for people importing to SA though

Security patched to end December...yay. Now I can ignore my compulsive upgrade disorder for the immediate future.

Anyone wanting a cheap up to date phone, AliExpress Mi Store is selling the new Redmi Note 9T 5G for $189 today.

I would not buy a 64gb model, these days better to go for 128gb. The 128gb model is $250 and it does not ship to SA so you will have to use a freight forwarder like AGS. If you check the AGS thread it has become a nightmare getting stuff and then one still has to add the shipping, weight and customs to the price.

Even a site like gearbest which has always been better than aliexpress at pricing and shipping takes ages these days to ship or one has to cancel the order after a month delay in shipping. Had this experience twice recently.

The Note 9T 5G has a dedicated memory card slot, rather buy the 64GB and adding a large capacity memory card would still be cheaper than the 128GB.

Makes sense but people are still struggling to get their stuff through freight forwarders if at all. Just check the AGS thread.

Doesn't make the phone any worse a deal, it's probably still best bang for the buck out there, and postage problems will apply to all Chinese purchases.

The Dimensity 800 chip is one of the few actually doing dual 5G at present, and it covers all the worldwide sub-6 frequencies. You could be happy that the phone will be future proof for years.

a quick look at USD-ZAR exchange rates puts it under R3k.

Well actually it can become a nightmare if you don't get the item and must wait for a refund. I also like to deal with gearbest cause I use paypal and the protection that comes with it.

Like I said, add the weight costs, shipping and customs (not to mention delays happening in customs) and it can definately become a nightmare.

I suppose a person can wait for Gearbest to get stock and then pay a 50%-60% price surcharge for dealing with Gearbest rather than the Mi Store on AliExpress.

Or wait a month and not get the item and then have to wait for a refund (unlike paypal which gaurantee your money back if you not happy). With specials like this it often happens that the item is sold out but they still take your money and then starts the painful refund process...

Also, if you don't care about 5G (which is still almost useless in SA) you might as well go for the note 9 pro on gearbest which is backed by paypal in case you not happy

edit:
even cheaper on banggood:

Pity both sites stopped shipping phones to SA so one needs a freight forwarder now too.

And you guarantee it will still be useless in 12 months? How about in18 months?
Well if I look at our service provider's 4G coverage they are struggling, so cannot see them investing lots into 5G anytime soon. Maybe its just me, but when that happens, I will have a new handset and 5G handsets will also be cheaper as the 5G radios used in these phones are still expensive as it has not reached mass production yet.

Not sure where you get that idea from, the 5G SoC‘s are heading into third and fourth generation already and the SD 865 and 888, as well as the SD 750 and 765G are definitely into mass production (there’s another even cheaper 7 series in production, I just can’t remember it’s number), as are the Dimensity SoC’s from MediaTek.

How much cheaper do you expect a decent spec 5G handset to drop to? Considering the Redmi I posted earlier is available under ZAR3,000

I think you’re about a year behind the times.
