Which device?
Mi 5 from late 2016.

Lineage has been pretty great so far...it's lighter on resources than Miui (storage, RAM, CPU) so the phone feels a bit snappier. Also no in-app ads which Xiaomi had kind of gotten me used to

Compare to the Mi 10 Lite, there's more than one or two specs that are better.

AMOLED screen trumps IPS LCD especially as the 10Lite has HDR+ (x3 doesn't), it's got a superior 7nm SoC, so better in performance and power economy, better GPS chip, better GPU, superior Bluetooth implementation and made of Gorilla glass 5 rather than plastic.

I could have had the X3 for around £20 less, but its false economy.
Thank you Dave, I was considering one for my Mum, her eyes aren't great and your point on the AMOLED screen vs IPS is what sold me.

Not sure where you get that idea from, the 5G SoC‘s are heading into third and fourth generation already and the SD 865 and 888, as well as the SD 750 and 765G are definitely into mass production (there’s another even cheaper 7 series in production, I just can’t remember it’s number), as are the Dimensity SoC’s from MediaTek.

How much cheaper do you expect a decent spec 5G handset to drop to? Considering the Redmi I posted earlier is available under ZAR3,000

I think you’re about a year behind the times.
No use arguing with you - fact remains our service providers cant even do 4G properly in SA and how long has 4G been around for?

Enough derailment of the thread discussing 5G though, if you have a use in the UK then by al means enjoy it..

You really do come over as a bit of a Negative Nancy, you know?

Especially when you started arguing about the Redmi Note 9T somehow not being a good deal at R3k but not seeming to apply the same standards to other China sourced phones.

Are you as miserable and argumentative in real life? ;)

They can't be having you get a SIM with a decently priced data package on. That would be preposterous.
Can the other sim slot not be reactivated? Is it not the same phone with the one sim slot disabled? or do they actually make single sim version of the phones?

I've only ever seen a dual sim of this phone that's why wondering if it is the same phone, just with the one sim disabled
Huawei VC and MTN firmware deactivated the second sim in the p9 lite back in the day, you could flash a different firmware to unlock it again. They later closed that loophole so it was not possible to do that with later devices. I am not sure what the situation is with the xiaomi handsets.

Why don't you just buy it from Takealot?

The Trump administration has designated Xiaomi as a “Communist Chinese military company” which would qualify it to be one of the blacklisted companies under the Trump Administration’s Executive Order from November that bars American securities and investment companies from putting capital resources on investments that fund “Communist Chinese military companies”.

That executive order stated that the “PRC exploits United States investors to finance the development and modernization of its military,” by selling securities to US investors that trade on public stock exchanges both in the US and overseas.
