Xiaomi officially ditching the Mi branding for its products

Xiaomi has been selling its products with Mi branding on the overseas market, but it will phase out the moniker from now on. XDA-Developers first reported the news, and then it was officially confirmed by a company spokesperson - starting from Q3 2021, the “Mi” product series will be simply called “Xiaomi”; just like it has been since forever at home in China.

The first devices with the new branding were actually the Mix 4 smartphone and the Pad 5 tablet series, launched on August 10. After the event was over, we had our suspicions about the rebranding, but it took 14 days for the company to confirm what everyone expected - Mi is no longer a thing.

The full press release states:

This change will unify our global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products. This change may take some time to take effect in all regions.

With introducing the new brand identity, two distinct product series will sit beneath the parent brand.

Xiaomi products represent the pinnacle of technology and offer a premium experience.

Redmi products bring big innovation at a more accessible price point and are aimed at a younger audience.

This differentiation is also reflected in our updated logos, with both the Xiaomi and Redmi logotypes under the parent brand logo.

The product series naming convention — Xiaomi and Redmi — will also be applied to our ecosystem and IoT products over time.

Xiaomi mi band 6 problem?

I got the xiaomi mi band 6 as a present on Friday and twice now the green light that measure your heart rate has gone on and stayed on until i rebooted it, once on saturday and then again today.

Was bought from takealot, should i return it?
Had a battery drain issue on a Band 3 which I bought for my wife. Tried everything but battery would only last a day or 2. Returned for a replacement and all was well.

Last night my Redmi 9S was sticking out of my pocket and when I stood up, the power button/fingerprint reader got smacked. Now the phone doesn't even know it's equipped with a fingerprint reader, plus the sensor/power button is SCORCHINGLY hot. Like hot enough to painfully burn me when I put my finger on it for more than a second. This is causing heavy battery drain, almost down to 80% in 2 hrs after taking it off the charger.

Trying to find someone willing to repair a Xiaomi device is turning out to be a real ballache. Everyone just says that they can't source the parts, even when I tell them that I would be fine with them just disconnecting the sensor. Anyone know of a repair shop in Cape Town that might be willing to help me out with this? Does Vodacom do Xiaomi repairs.

I have emailed MIA South Africa but yet to get a response back and I have a feeling they won't be interested if the phone wasn't purchased through them, so just coming here to get recommendations in the meanwhile.

Only know of a place in JHB. Although they can arrange courier for pickup and return.

I've used them a few times for a screen on Mi 9T Pro and battery on a Redmi 4A.

Thanks, going to format the phone as memory is full (64gb model)
If no update i'll flash it with official firmware, i'm sure this will be the last major update, so i'll probably go custom roms after this.
64GB Memory full! How?

Just an update: Yet to receive a response to my WhatsApp query

MIA isn't interested in helping me directly and has told me I need to return my phone to whomever I purchased it from and have them send it through to them.

Another place I called said I can it to the Vodacom repair shop in Canal Walk, so I guess that's my next stop.\

Was always very pleased with the phone before this, but this aftermarket support really stinks considering how long Xiaomi phones have been sold in SA.

Agree with this. The after sale support sucks.

Queried with MIA for a battery for my note 8 and they told me check TAL. They are the distributor of Xiaomi in SA so that made no sense.

Still looking to buy an original redmi note 8 new battery. Anyone reading this got any idea where I can buy a battery? Import it from Xiaomi India?

Oh of course. You don't use an SD card it seems.
Correct Second SIM for data,

So I ended up downloading the official update package from Xiaomi Website, only to be met with an error, i then proceeded to unlock the bootloader and flash said official firmware.
So I'm on Miui 12.5.1 now.

I'd need the 128GB to let go of my SD card as I also use dual SIM.

Vodacom repair shop doesn't wanna fix my phone because the IMEI "isn't on their network" or something I can't understand. Even the Pakistanis repair places don't want to look at my phone.

I am so annoyed. I didn't expect it to be this bad. No more Xiaomi devices for me I guess.
