The Official Xiaomi Thread

I don't have the problem with mine with regards to open wifi networks, must be a setting on your side.
You can randomize the MAC for the wifi hotspot youre connected to, if you're really anal about privacy. Goto "Modify network" at the bottom after tapping onto your wifi for that setting.

So with Apple, the default is 'random mac' - infuriating if we try to track devices on our internal platforms so we need to ask people to change their settings to use device mac . On iOS -uou manually need to set it to use device mac. With Xiaomi - default is device mac and then I need to choose random MAC by which point it is too late especially for open hotspots.

My biggest problem is that while I am driving or at shopping centers', the device connects to which ever access point it sees. On William Nicol, it connects Sun international hotels, etc - there is a really good WiFi radio in the phone )

But the thing is I never asked the phone to do it and I can't find any setting to disable this behaviour. On my Nokia Android one phone, there was an option to enable/disable this globally to auto connect to unknown / open hotspots.

I am running EU ROM if it matters as I bought the phone from Amazon UK.

Xiaomi removed the "Connect to open network" switch from MIUI. You can search for it in settings and it comes up but when you click on the result, it takes you to the wifi settings page which doesn't have it.

I can only imagine it's part of their data harvesting policy. If someone's phone is connecting to random networks and announcing device MAC, makes it pretty easy to build location history.

They are losing the plot with pricing. View attachment 1187544
Nice! Awesome price, just bought the Note 10 Pro on Takealot for R4999 on the early blue dot sale(was after the camera specs)... For my wife... Damn jealous! I'm Still sitting with my note 7 (not a day's complain) this time the old switcharoo trick just did not want to work :-)

Sorry thought it is the Note 10s pricing :-(
The most I expected the Redmi 10 to be was R3500.

R3000 when it's on sale

Almost R4000 for a Redmi 10 is excessive.

You missed a previous deal on the Note 10 Pro. It was R4500 including a smart band.

It is annoying that Vodacom gets the nice colours but you are stuck with a crap single sim device.

The Redmi Note 11 Pro comes in cool colours. Hopefully Mia actually places an effort into different colours for the dual sim variant.

Bloody aholes they are. Gonna dump this phone as soon as I can. Bye bye Xiaomi

In the meantime, gonna find out if there is a way to auto disable WiFi if phone is connected to car Bluetooth.

You could use Tasker to automate this with a small script. But still a scummy move IMHO

Put a custom ROM on it or at the very least an xiaomi.eu ROM. The hardware is good but Xiaomi are getting worse with the tracking nonsense even on EU ROMs so its better to use a custom one.

I like ArrowOs:

I am on EU ROM. I can't be arsed to mess around with custom ROMs ,etc. I save all my tinkering time for home Assistant

Now looking at Nokia phones. Worst case, may try to get a Pixel phone. Know someone visiting from US soon.

xiaomi.eu is a custom miui rom that removes all the xiaomi ad/tracking where possible its not the standard eu rom. But it still needs unlocked phone.

Both xiaomi.eu and arrowos have over the air updates if they support your device so its really just a once of pain and then it all just works. My current xiaomi I didnt even use until the unlock wait was over and I had loaded arrowos. Been really happy with it since then.

Good to know ... perhaps it will be my december project when I have some time. The thought of wiping the phone as it is currently, already giving me the sweats especially when it comes redoing all my authentication stuff and redoing all the financial apps ... :D

I guess some folks on here have very nice back ups because they always make changing ROMs sound like easy work, something to be done on the reg.

Banking apps working fine after flashing these roms?

Any guesses when the Note 11 will launch this side?

What we know as the Note 10 series, is very different to the devices that initially launched in China with that name. The same is going to happen again. You wont see the Chinese versions. Check this out too.

The vanilla Redmi Note 11 may appear in RSA as a rebranded Poco M4 Pro though. That is all over google.

Factors at play include the necessity of 5G in China while not required in the biggest market outside of China, India, yet.
And the shortages across the world of processors (in many different industries).

When? Towards the middle of next year, much earlier for the Poco M4 Pro.

Just got an update for my Redmi Note 9 Pro.

Went from MIUI 12.0.4.0 to 12.5.2.0.

No change to Android version. (11 RKQ1)
