Also check there and get the cover as well to protect the next one.

@hj2k_x - do gestures still work with MIUI disabled? ie swipe from left or right of screen to go back, swipe up from bottom of screen to go to home screen, etc. I prefer to not use the standard 'buttons' option at the bottom of the screen.

I'll have to check and get back to you. I'm oldskool. I like me some buttons.

I'm so used to gestures, even do it on wife's Huawei just to ask her what's wrong with her phone. Nothings seems to work

My Xiaomi Note 10 Pro starts overheating after taking maybe 20 108M photos.

I hardly take pictures but every time i take pictures i get this overheating warning.

My wife tends to take loads of pics at the same time with her Note 10 Pro and she does not have any issues. Her phone is running the older 12.5.3 firmware from VodaCom and she is limited to 1 SIM - so not sure if that makes any difference.

The pictures the phone takes is pretty amazing, but I'll make do with my Note 9T Pro for now.

Just ordered two Redmi 9A phones, one for me to play with and another for my dad who is still on his ancient P9 Lite after the Galaxy A32 he got as upgrade was stolen. I noticed the 9A does not come with a TPU cover or screen protector so that did as a bit to the cost of the phones.

I’m running 12.5.9.

The issue has been happening before I could even update the software.

The phone really does take amazing photos. I like it. My biggest concern now is that if I take a 4K video it means the phone will burn to ashes.

I will try Google this issue and update you.

Anybody with a Redmi 9T?

Apparently there are bootloop & overheating issues.

The phone is stuck in a bootloop after updating it & apparently the motherboard is an issue.

This also occurs on the Poco M3.

Anybody experienced this?

@Pineapple Smurf
@Rouxenator
Mine isn't yet 3 months old.

I bought it knowing about these issues, so am still waiting for the wonderful day it doesn't boot up .... however, nothing in the comments section of the 9T thread (on GSM Arena) indicate any problems by owners in RSA, so I live in hope.

I have a Note 9T with no such issues. Maybe only limited to the 9T based on the older CPU?
Apparently some or other fault to do with the motherboard (or equivalent in a smartphone) in the 9T ... and then, seemingly affects those sold in certain parts of the world (Malaysia & Nigeria among them, if I recall) ; perhaps a batch or lot produced then shipped off to some limited countries.

That's what I'm hopeful for, at least.

There really isn't much to choose from below 4k

Samsung A22 4g or 5g variant

Redmi 10

Redmi Note 9T

Occasionally the Note 10s is 4299 from Takealot.

I'm not sure which phone to buy.

Does xiaomi update their devices or at least provide security patches?

A good objective overview of Xiaomi (Shaomee) in '21:

Winners and losers: Xiaomi

It has been a productive year for Xiaomi – it launched over 50 devices and that is just counting the phones. It also did a bit of rebranding by dropping the ‘Mi’ from its premium devices – starting in the second half of this year, the company goes with just “Xiaomi” + model number, just as it has always done in China.

The year isn’t over yet, the company plans to unveil one of the first phones with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 – the Xiaomi 12 series – which will probably arrive with the stable MIUI 13 (a beta version is already undergoing tests).

I previously wrote about my 9T wrt security and MIUI updates, or lack thereof :

The Note 9T - and others you listed - may be very different ?

The only updates Xiaomi seem good at pushing out to my phone are the ones I'm not interested in - wallpapers, themes etc., in their System app updater.

As an aside, why all the apparent hate for MIUI? What is it that is meant to be making it so bad exactly?

Xiaomi really need to improve their software.

I was really close to buying a 9T 5g but my head is telling me to go with the A22 5g.

Samsung's update schedule has improved tremendously.

I was seriously considering a Xiaomi device.

It just seems like a gamble long term.

I have watched many reviews and everything seems like a half arsed attempt.

They make too many devices, diluting their brand & neglect customer experience.

Their phones either overheat, have too many bugs, are updated with further bugs or have hardware issues e.g proximity sensors.

A Samsung is far from perfect but it just works out of the box.

OneUI is reliable and ram management is decent.

Buying a Xiaomi requires you to do more research & use custom roms etc.

The out of the box experience from Xiaomi is lacking.

They need to outsource software to a company that needs money i.e HTC or something.

the spyware is pretty blatant though probably more relevant if you're in China. Their update schedule could be better - my phone's a year old and hasn't had an update since September (no Android security patches let alone actual improvements). When I was on Lineage on my previous Xiaomi, I was getting updates weekly (though I only updated once a month). That's pretty poor if you consider Lineage isn't making money off me with ads.

MIUI is "fine" as a skin but would you install if it was a standalone option over vanilla android? I wouldn't.

This guy basically made me realise a Xiaomi will be a headache to deal with.

I recently went from Pixel Experience on Android 11 back to MIUI 12.5. i switched back after a day.

It was a laggy mess compared to PE, so I took the opportunity to load PE based on Android 12. Oddly enough, MIUI on the SO's Redmi 9T is still running like clockwork.
