The Official Xiaomi Thread

I was seriously considering a Xiaomi device.

It just seems like a gamble long term.

I have watched many reviews and everything seems like a half arsed attempt.

They make too many devices, diluting their brand & neglect customer experience.

Their phones either overheat, have too many bugs, are updated with further bugs or have hardware issues e.g proximity sensors.

A Samsung is far from perfect but it just works out of the box.

OneUI is reliable and ram management is decent.

Buying a Xiaomi requires you to do more research & use custom roms etc.

The out of the box experience from Xiaomi is lacking.

They need to outsource software to a company that needs money i.e HTC or something.
That's not really an answer to my question a out MIUI specifically but I see where you are going.

That hasn't been my experience with any of the many Xiaomi phones and other devices I've had over the years. Also, so far so good with my current Note 10 Pro.

I think it depends on your luck.

I have a friend that streams regularly & the Note 10 pro constantly overheats when she goes live.

I really like my A2 Lite - but google kicked them off One - so I tried MIUI 12 and it ain't that bad.

Not nearly as bad as Samsung. My dad got an A32 as upgrade phone and it was s...t - thankfully it got stolen and he went back to his P9 lite and next up an 9A.

My wife and I have had many Note and S range Samsung phones. We always loaded custom ROMs, because their battery management is pure crap. Updates generally stopped dead after less than a year.

Their front end is just as bad as any other phone manufacturer. That is why apps like Nova Launcher exist. (One of the few apps that I have paid for the premium upgrade)

For a fraction of the price, I'll rather stick to Xiaomi. My Max 3 turns 3 years old on Friday (it was delivered on new year's Eve ) and the battery still lasts 2 days...

Will the Capitec bank app work on a custom ROM, on the 9T ?

If so, would that be all available custom ROMs or only specific ones ?

I think that's the only app that would prevent me from going to the trouble of unlocking the bootloader etc., these days, which seems to be a real pain on Xiaomi with that numerous days wait time (assuming the process works fine on the 9T).

after many samsung devices, im enjoying my redmi9.
i wish the camera was better, but that's offset with much better battery life.
(another caveat: the digime issue)

Anyone's Redmi have WiFi issues.?
I have a note 10 Pro max. The ability to jump to the best access point seems to be questionable. When toggling wifi it then selects the best hotspot.

Question: is it normal for new Xiaomis to have their browsers use quite so much battery?

Chrome was using more than the screen so I disabled it and went with Firefox. Now that is doing the same... Screenshot_2021-12-28-10-31-59-795_com.miui.securitycenter.jpg

Essential Firefox mobile addons:
uBlock origin
Dark reader

Also good:
Noscript / Https Anywhere / Decentraleyes

Might make a decent difference.

Had to change the region to St Helena to get the headset volume up on. Weird why it's reduce on South Africa?

Now it's so loud I can't listen with earphones at max volume because it's so loud.

Did anyone get always-on display to stay on like the Samsung phones do. Phone is Note 10 Pro.
Just to update. I managed to get AOD to display the clock all the time by following hj2k_x's instructions (thank you) but disabled it again soon afterwards. Battery life was dismal after turning off Miui optimization.

I am currently on Miui global version 12.5.3.0 (RKFZAVC). Anyway I can update to Miui 12.5.9 which is think is the latest version for the Note 10 Pro.

I disabled Miui optimization at 8:45 am on day 1 with 100% battery. By 18:30 that same day battery was at about 55%. Normally my battery is at about 68% after 24 hours.
Ok that is quite significant.

It's a pity because I need that AOD to be always on. Otherwise I wouldn't have got the phone at all. Especially as it has no notification LED.
