Software support for Xiaomi is questionable. Also the differences between Mediatek and Exynos are not that different and the overheating issues are fixed on the Samsungs(if you believe them).
In 2023, Samsung said that most of their phones will have 5 years support and Xiaomi said something similar so they are about equal there although this may only apply to Xiaomis flagships...
 
Yeah just to give you an idea as well of issues I have had with my 4 year old Xiaomi and wifes 2 year old device (still using the phone today). These are daft ramblings but just what I am experiencing with the phone and seeing in the phone market now.

Xiaomi has exceptionally aggressive memory and battery management. You have to whitelist apps to not be governed by the battery saver feature which a lot of always on / persistently running apps need. It has gotten better on the memory front but I still find that I will be watching a video or listening to a podcast and I pause and 30 mins later I come back and the page/app has to be refreshed or reloaded as the memory manager has closed it or suspended it. I manage my open apps very aggressively as well and its a pain to deal with sometimes. It did get better than before but its not great now either.

The unlocking of the boot loader is iffy at best and wonder if one day it will just stop being supported. The one week wait is frankly not acceptable. I bought the device. If I want to access the bootloader then let me do it. I suppose at least its not completely shut out and maybe Im just being silly here.

I am now in the market for a new phone and these phones are not as value for money as they once were. I feel that when comparing, what was once thousands of Rand difference between equivalent phones from different manufacturers now looks like a couple hundred difference in EITHER direction for the same or worse specs. This brings me to my next point.

These phones should have evolved along with the market but feels like they are missing key components that mid range should definitely have. NFC being region specific or not present on some new models defies belief for me. Having options stuck behind three or four different Pro/Max/Plus/Note/Ultra lines is just flipping confusing. 5G should now be at least filtering down to to the mid range lines but not at the expense of NFC or other features. 14 Ultra... no esim... 14 Regular ... has esim.... what? Or is it region specific also? Just confusing and rubbish marketing.
The increase in MPs on camera just does not justify the increase in price. My four year old phone camera can shoot in 4k still and having more MPs is just not what it used to be. This may be more important to you but its honestly MEH to me.

I bought my last phone knowing the UI was rather poor compared to other brands but that was fine for thousands less than a Samsung. The UI still looks a generation or two behind and poor compared to Samsung in my opinion at least. Bloatware is also comparable to Samsung and I am paying similar prices for the phones now...

They are undoubtedly still good phones but not exceptional as they once were.

100% and it affects notifications too.
 
I'm using the POCO F5 for a while now and I'm having none of the issues you guys are.

Security patches come every 2 or 3 months. And sometimes my WhatsApp notifications disappear from the lock screen every now and then , but they are still there when I unlock the device.
That's about it.

Unfortunately that firmware is not available for my model. I used a custom ROM - Pixel Experience - for several months and my notifications were a little more consistent but then the maintainer dropped that ROM so I had to revert to MIUI.

I honestly can't speak for the poco line. I have been looking at them but feel a bit burnt out on them tbh. Think poco competes more flagship or flagship adjacent campared to others.

Incredible connection is not just a "bit cheaper" than Vodacom - the phone is R10999 at Incredible for the 8GB/256GB for the Note 13 Pro plus 5G so thats R5000 cheaper than Vodacom's R16500 asking price which is totally delusional

Vodacom's price is higher because they only have the 12GB/512GB version.
 
Has anyones Xiaomi phone randomly started playing "music", its never done this before. Last night at about 01:15 it played the type of music you would hear on a add for Wish/Temu.

It only did it once so far.
 
Hi guys, I want to buy the Redmi turbo 3 from sunsky it's R6500 and R286 for buffalo logistics. I've never ordered from them before, I wanted to know if it's legit and how much is customs. When I normally buy with buffalo, it's customs included. Thanks

It's legit and customs can be another 600 easy, just get a local phone Xiaomi isn't the darling it once was.
 
The last flagship device I had was the Galaxy S6 and currently I'm using a Realme Gt neo 2. I want to upgrade, I can get the S23 256gb for R11k but I can also get the Redmi turbo 3 for R7k. I'm torn between the two. I would love to save money but don't want to sacrifice on performance and software. Is the Xiaomi really good at both? Is the software experience Good or on par with Samsung? Thanks any help would be great.
 
Xiaomi is meh to average on ui and software and bloated with crapware that I would say is worse than Samsung.
Decent on hardware but it's aggressive memory management is frustrating.
Decent battery life but again it's cos the memory management kills everything in the background.

Honestly, watch videos and look at your options. Decide what fits your needs.
