The Official Xiaomi Thread

I almost lost my Redmi Note 10S over the weekend. Was on the beach with the phone in my pants pocket and tried to catch a crab in the shallow surf. My 5 year old then tells me he saw a phone on the sand, and I realised it fell out of my pocket. Turned around and the wave was pulling back over my phone. Quickly grabbed it and luckily it was still working. Pulled it out of the cover and turned it off. Cover was full of sand as well. Took it home and used a hair dryer to make sure the ports were dry and luckily the phone still worked. Had some sand stuck in the headphone jack causing the phone to think there were headphones plugged in, but once I cleaned that out it was back to normal. Still want to clean all the ports decently but luckily the quick wash doesn't seem to have caused any damage.

Probably a question that's been asked before, but any issues with CN vs Global roms in SA. Particularly Gpay and esim?

For those playing games on Xiaomi or the Poco phones you need to turn off MIUI optimization in developer options to get 120FPS in games.

Been struggling forever with my poco x3 gt as games refused to go above 60FPS.

Very angry about it.

I have a Realme GT Neo 2 bought from china, and although it came with all the gapps, gpay did not work. Had to load a custom rom for it to work. My guess would be that it cn roms would have the same issue.

Apologies if this has been asked before. I have a Redmi Note 8 imported from China in 2018. It has Chinese ROM and I cannot access Google Play Store or Google Services. And installing apps via APK's is becoming less reliable.
Does anyone know the steps 100% of how I can switch to Global ROM?
I'm running MIUI 12.5.5

As far as I remember, if you install the global ROM on a Chinese Xiaomi, banking apps stop working and I think NFC also (if your phone has NFC).

You should look into whether xiaomi.eu has a custom ROM for your phone OR move away from MIUI altogether. The steps to do either are roughly the same - unlock the bootloader and install the downloaded ROM via fastboot or TWRP.

Whichever option you choose, the website where you get the ROM from will have the exact steps to follow.

I have a few questions about the Remi note 13 Pro:

  • How bad is the bloatware?
  • Has it received the HyperOS and Android 14 updates?
  • How user-friendly is the fingerprint scanner, especially when used with Google Wallet?
  • How good is the hart rate measuring?
  • Would the POCO X6 Pro be a better option?
Thank you.

This might help a bit:

Thank you bud, I'm looking for something that is going to be future proofed for the next couple of years.
Consider models which are non-RedMi, like the Xiaomi 13(t) Pro.

Sure, you're going to pay Samsung-level prices for it but it will last 4+ years, bar the battery.

So why not just go Samsung and get 5 + years?

True :) but honestly as soon as you go Samsung money, go Samsung. Xiaomi is no longer the value it used to be.
Hate that you're right.
I buy from a guy who sources them directly from India for 30%, or less, than locally. I've been lucky to not need a warranty claim.
