The Official Xiaomi Thread

I have watched countless youtube videos and done google searches, and spent hours experimenting but I am not coming right.

I don't want to root my Xiaomi MI Max 2. How do I get read and write permissions for the SD card with the latest 8.5 MIUI ? I am using a Samsung 64 GB SD card.

And how do you copy a large volume of music or pictures to the SD card in your Xiaomi ? I have tried connecting my phone up to my Windows 10 computer to use MiPCSuit, but my computer does not recognise my phone. Is there a driver I need to install ? Oh, I have activated developer options, and tried switching on USB debugging, and it is set for MTP

Any chance of connecting a Xiaomi phone up to a MacBook Pro ?

Stupid question....Is there a lock slider on the SD card?

Regarding your other problem of PC not recognising your phone: When you plug your phone in, do you pull down on the screen and change between charging and USB Storage (example from internet: LINK?
Also, I had it once where I had to re-install my motherboards USB driver on Windows, before it worked.

Like I said in my previous post, I found the problem. No, not the slider switch, I had to activate developer options and then had to change several settings.

Speaking of SD cards, both my Huawei devices have the ability to "swap" internal storage and SD card memory around.

Meaning you can get a phone with 8Gb of storage, but plonk in an 32Gb SD card, swap the memory and voila! Phone with 32Gb RAM.

Of course if you do this from the beginning on your device, all apps will install on your SD card. If not, you can move 'em over (with the exception of preinstalled apps and some speshul schnowflakes apps).

Not sure if Xiaomi has same, but I set mine to store camera pictures rather.

Have seen lock sliders on larger SD cards, but not on smaller SD cards....

Thanks for that - I will try that with my Windows 10 laptop.

I did come right a few hours ago, when trying to connect to my MacBook Pro. On my Xiaomi I had to go into developer options, and then changed a few things - activated USB debugging, allow USB permissions for USB debugging, install via USB, force allow apps on external storage, and then from "select USB configuration", it was set to "charging" and I changed it to MTP

After changing those settings, I downloaded "Android File Transfer" onto my Mac. I was then able to transfer folders and files to my Xiaomi at up to 4 GB at a time.

You would think they would make it easier to get stuff onto the SD card....
Solid Explorer do everything I need or want. Bought the pro version. Never been sorry.

I have tried that on multiple different devices, particularly my Samsung Tablets which have ridiculously small 16 GB memory. Samsung Tab S 10.4, Samsung Tab S 8.5, Samsung Tab S 2 8.4. None of them have the option in settings under storage "use SD card as main storage".

I also have a Huawei P8 MAX which I bought in the USA with global ROM, and although it's memory is big enough and I don't need it swopped, it doesn't have the option either.

My Xiaomi Mi MAX 2 and Xiaomi Note 4 doesn't have the feature either. It seems to be on select devices or ROMs

If anyone knows how to get that feature on recent top of the range Samsung tablets I would really appreciate hearing about it.

MIUI seems pretty stable when compared to my old Moto G that needed a reboot every once in a while. 24-ish days since my last reboot :)

What's the flagship phone atm in the Xiaomi brand? Interested in seeing how their best device performs.

wonder how quickly the mix 2 will be available for pre order on gearbest after they announce it tomorrow, and how long they will take to release it for sale after tomorrow
