I think I sent a request to unlock many months ago, still waiting.

Then you doing something wrong or missing a step. It literally takes 5 minutes.

Wow this piece of **** company makes it difficult to unlock your device.

Well they doing one better than most of the OEM's that you literally have to hack to be able to do so.

Just as there are loads of people that got it in 5 minutes....

One reason is miui sucks. Some apps that you care about you need to make a protected app:

Open the SECURITY app,
tap PERMISSIONS,
tap AUTOSTART,
navigate to STASH and switch the toggle ON.

Then open the SECURITY app,
tap BATTERY,
tap APP BATTERY SAVER,
navigate to STASH and tap on NO RESTRICTIONS,
under BACKGROUND LOCATION tap on ALLOW.

Even then it's a hit or miss if they'll work as intended.

Hardware on the Nokia's are average. It's the draw of Android updates that's attracting buyers.
