The only thing I find wrong with Gearbest is that it takes ages to be shipped. Especially if it's on a flash sale and only ends in say 9 days, I'd rather pay a few hundred extra elsewhere for faster shipping.

That being said. Is there an easier way to load the MIUI global developer rom without unlocking the boot loader ? I have only seen ways that requires a boot loader unlock if going from a stable to developer rom

Where would elsewhere be? I am still looking at a Mi A1 but Gearbest pricing has gone back to launch prices...

Yip - waiting for them to confirm the phone is being returned to a new condition... I'm curious to see what state it'll be returned in - if it is "new", it just shows how other companies shaft you.

Returned :wtf: looks brand-new. But is my original phone.

So far I can't pick up any problems - only thing they did do wrong was charge me for a new sim tray, but instead bent the original straight

On mine I had to send it back because some how they messed up the sim card reader while replacing the screen. Phone did look brand-new though.
See they are cheaper then any other supplier.

Reading the positive feedback I'm wondering if I should send my Note 2 for a earpiece renewal as its gotten soft or wait out the Note 5.

My Note 2 also had a wonky earpiece. What happened was the contacts on the earpiece are held to the board under tension and the spring loaded contacts go soft after a while and bug out. Seems to be a common issue.

I see that the Wifi submenu now tells you which networks support which revision of WiFi (2.4, 5 or a mixture of both) after the update to MIUI 9

Is there any benefit to running the developer rom? Do you get security patches quicker ? Seems a mission to unlock the bootloader to load the Dev rom

You get features quicker than the Stable channel would, but as it's basically Beta you will be taking a risk having it on your daily phone if anything were to go wrong. Usually they patch it every week, and this updates the security patch as well IIRC.

When I went over to Dev ROM I didn't need to unlock my bootloader at all (Redmi Note 4 SD625). I just downloaded the ROM, shoved it into downloaded_rom on the phone storage and installed it via the Updater App on the phone

You should not need to unlock to go dev. You get security patches faster but also open a security hole (In my view) as I am sure because its beta they will have apps report back for quality testing.

Personally I stick to stable on my primary phone and reserve dev for what its meant for (testing crap).

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 stars in live image leak

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was a bestseller during its multiple flash sales and even managed to smash some records. But this is a phone that first appeared in August 2016, so it’s time for the successor Redmi Note 5 to step in. And now the first live photo of the new phone leaked on Weibo, along with some specs.

According to the image, the Redmi Note 5 will have Snapdragon 625 chipset. The screen has the trendy 18:9 ratio, a 5.99” diagonal and Full HD+ resolution.

The phone reports 54GB of storage available, meaning that it's a 64GB unit. There is at least one camera with 12 MP sensor and the whole setup runs on Android Nougat 7.1.2. The battery has 4,000 mAh capacity and the fingerprint scanner is most likely on the back.

The image also reveals only one selfie camera, while the volume rocker and power buttons are still laying on the right side, like in the Redmi Note 4.

My Mi 6 got delivered today. It's pretty sweet and feels very premium. Now to just decide on whether to go stable or developer rom
