The Official Xiaomi Thread

Too lazy to look for his quote. But I'll try the open camera suggestion too.

As regards to BT audio, there will be a hiss as long as they're "cheap" headphones (<R2.5k).
Yeah - I also call bull**** on the hiss and only being experienced with cheap cans. I dont get the hiss when the same cans are used with other phones.

In fact , heard the slight hiss even on my car Bluetooth when phone was paired to it.

It doesn't include duties/clearing fees. I've ordered my Mi5 a month ago from Gearbest, and received it today (Gearbest's fault, Aramex is quite speedy). It took them a whole month to process my order. Shipping with Aramex only took a week. I've paid $200 for the Mi5 and the customs/duties/clearance was just over R300. Costed R3000 in total for phone, shipping and customs.

Thanks man,
Just an FYI for anybody importing phones.
While doing some research I see that these phones do not work on all LTE Bands, ppl In USA where having issues with 4g.
However you can put in the make/model and select which SA network from the this site and it will tell you if its compatible.Im not sure how accurate it is tho.

I tried open camera today - that app is diabolical - lots of options but seems to take even worse pics then the stock camera app on note 4. Don't even try HDR option for static type photos. So slow at taking the multiple photos.

Think my phone may just be slighlty dodgy with camera itself and Bluetooth audio chips. Will see if I can swap it out

Open camera is great for me
Note 4 mtk

Ta. A bit beyond my price range unfortunately but a great device nonetheless.

I ended up considering the Oukitel K6000 Pro that was on flash sale at Gearbest for R1844 this weekend, but after much uhm-ing and aah-ing I decided to rather get him a Redmi Note 4 for a few hundred rands more.

The Oukitel is very nice but a very unknown brand locally and I have zero experience with the brand. The IP64 splash resistance, 6000mAH battery and 5.5" 1080p screen is very nice, but I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a notification LED and I have read reports that the camera is a bit sluggish even in good light.

All in all I ended up sticking with Xiaomi so I hope I can make him grow fond of their products just as I did. I think I may have a difficult time prying the Nokia 1320 away from him...

Very good choice there.
I gave the Oukitel a long look as the batterylife is beyond awesome, but once you delve deeper there are many problems that aren't visible at first glance. Also watched some youtube reviews which totally made up my mind.

Xiaomi Note 4 ftw.

Anyone got Google Assistant working on the Note 4?
I think mines is working. Is that when you can speak to phone and when you tap on Google search bar it shows you stuff relevant to you.

One thing that frustrates me about android or maybe it's this phone is that then when I got it occasionally, I would get aome unprompted notifications to help configure settings or lock screen or notification bar, etc . Not knowing too much i would make a few changes thinking I could undo it later.

The problem is that i have never been able to find those screens again. I went through every setting in settings app . Not there . Don't know if I should be looking elsewhere

I would stick with Xiaomi - they are excellent with their updates and are bug free. I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 last year October - I love it. But just for the heck of it, I also bought a Leeco LeTV LE MAX one month later. It has excellent specs, 128 GB of memory !!!!!! and excellent 6.33 " 2K display etc etc etc. But they have never updated their firmware since it was released at the beginning of last year. There isn't even an option to search for software updates in their EUI OS. I get several phone freezes during the day, and it follows with a reboot. It lies on the table near me, and I see the phone doing something.....I glance over at it, and it is busy doing a reboot on it's own. Such a pity as it has great hardware. Xiaomi on the other hand, is a slick, error free, bug free, reputable product. I love Xiaomi products so much, I keep doing a search for them on Gearbest to see if they have brought out something new that i can buy. I have the Xiaomi MiBand 2 watch - also a great product....lasts 3 - 4 weeks on a charge.

Now waiting to see what the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will be like....if not that one, then I am tempted to get the new Matt black Xiaomi Mi Max 2

Lol if I have to enable Documents one more time to move stuff to my SD card I'll pop a vein. Leeco is liquidated anyway so can't compare them.

So what is the first thing that I need to do when I receive my Mi 6?

Flash a new international rom?
What are you guys running on your phones?

@surfs-up, thanks for the feedback.

I still love my Note 4, and as I know what to expect I thought I'd go ahead and get one for my dad too. I'm sure he'll get used to it quick, but I may load the Google Now Launcher on if he doesn't like the interface

What phone are you referring to that is giving you vein popping fears ? Xiaomi or Leeco ? Leeco don't have an SD card slot...well not mine at any rate, and it doesn't really need one with 128 GB on board.

As far as I know Leeco are still operating, although I did hear they went through some difficulty. They have recently launched new phones (LE Pro 3), and they also produce TV sets. But ja, I don't think I will buy another of their phones....they are too slack when it comes to software updates and bug fixing.
