The Official Xiaomi Thread

What phone are you referring to that is giving you vein popping fears ? Xiaomi or Leeco ? Leeco don't have an SD card slot...well not mine at any rate, and it doesn't really need one with 128 GB on board.

As far as I know Leeco are still operating, although I did hear they went through some difficulty. They have recently launched new phones (LE Pro 3), and they also produce TV sets. But ja, I don't think I will buy another of their phones....they are too slack when it comes to software updates and bug fixing.
I have the Redmi Note 2 with fake camera sensor. Will get me a cheap doogee phone soon.

So what is the first thing that I need to do when I receive my Mi 6?

Flash a new international rom?
What are you guys running on your phones?

Download the global rom in the mean time and keep it. When it arrives check if the global rom is pre-installed, if not then rename the downloaded rom to "update", copy the zip file to internal storage via PC. Go to the updater app and select the 3 dots, then select "choose update package" and choose the renamed rom

It comes with an international ROM. I'm assuming that that is the global ROM.

No need to rename it. Only if you'll update the phone via recovery.

Ordered a Xiaomi Redmi 4A from takealot just now.

My current crop is Huawei, but I want to try out something different for a change.

First it was Nokia all the way, until they burped.

Then it was Samsung. First Samsung was so-so, but ok. Then the second Samsung device - which gave me a lot of grief (battery issues etc) after 14 months. (S3 mini)

Then CellC had a R99 special on a Huawei Mediapad T1-701u - and I was hooked on Huawei. Excellent battery life, the best I've ever seen so far.

After that I got another Huawei device, a 10" tablet. In comparison to an iPad, its battery life is not so good when in use. But still satisfied with it.

Now this Xiaomi Redmi phone. There is life after Samsung, you just have to take the risk and do it.

Problem is that Samsung is able to drop their prices and undercut the competition... but their time is coming.

@The_Librarian I'm using a Redmi Note 2 from Takealot for over a year now and every day the phone simply performs like brand new. The reason I went for Xiaomi was because Huawei and Samsung don't have anything similarly priced with the same specs. The P8/P9/P10 Lite are all too expensive and MIUI offers more customisation options over EMUI.

I think you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised by the device. They do what is asked for them for very little outlay, as long as you don't have my bad luck and get one with a duff battery.

The earpiece speaker I ordered in May for my old Note 2 arrived yesterday after not being able to find it on SAPO's site for ages. It just popped up in my postbox all wrapped up in a brown bag. I am glad it never got stolen as our postbox doesn't even have so much as a lock on it.

I am out in the Vrystaat currently but will be back in town on Thursday to install it and hopefully resurrect the old Xiaomi, duff battery and all ;)

Older second hand phones really don't seem to sell well at all.

I eventually got R450 for my Moto G after lots of lowball offers despite it still being in perfectly good condition. That said perhaps a Sammy will ne more popular and fetch a better price. I regularly see Note 3's still go for as much as R2500 on Scamtree here in PE

Just signed up for the google beta program - wasnt in the mood for hassles

Busy following the instructions listed above but I swear I could do that with my phone - i.e say Ok Google when connected to power or when screen is on. I've set alarms , asked questions using voice

Is Google now completely different cos what I read on internet seems to point to screenshots of what I see when I open the search bar on the home screen

I wouldn't bother if what you have works. Only reason Im doing it is it integrates with Google Home and IFTTT better

Try this interesting test. Best to do in the dark. Use the notification pull down to turn on the torch. Pay attention to brightness and colour. Turn off.

Then say, ok Google turn on the torch. It should be much much brighter and a slightly different colourn. Did this test a few times in my note4 last night. Interesting !!

Really want to use all features. Followed that guide but still don't see beta Google app in the play store. Only chrome beta . Will try again tomorrow

It must use both LED's then. Xiaomi's torch widget toggle only uses the cool LED and the warm one stays off. Pretty neat find!

One thing I noticed yesterday on MIUI 8 is that if you swipe down from anywhere on your 'home' screen it brings down the notification shade.

Previously you had to swipe down from the top 10% of the screen where the time, status icons and battery level are located.

Didn't change anything on my Note 3. Looks like Xiaomi's shortcut used both LEDs here.

No need to pull down the notification just wake up the phone and press and hold the middle button.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 For R3199 (Black and White versions) on Daily at takealothttps://www.takealot.com/deals
Xiaomi Redmi 4A For R1799 (Grey)

I used to do ^ that but it doesn't work if you have my situation where you have your Mi Band unlocking on proximity and have the setting to skip the swipe screen enabled

Got my Xiaomi device an hour ago. (32Gb version)

Very impressed with it.

Only drawback was that they did not include instructions on how to open the SIM tray... but yeah, got that sorted eventually.

Busy loading it up with apps and games :D

Can always get extra memory later on.

Bonus is that it can handle two SIM's. - never planned for that, but it is nice to have.
