Xiaomi Redmi 4A.

Whatsapp says it's a test version. I've uninstalled it, and reinstalled. Shows latest version, yet still insists it is a test version.

Yesterday evening I got this :

Now I can't use whatscrapp at all. Think I may just go over to Telegram and sod the rest.

Any of you guys also having this funky and cool issue?
What's the date/time on your phone?

Hmpf. Whatsapp is working again, after an uninstall, left phone overnight, and reinstall (after the post above).

Typical.

Will see if this issue crops up again or not.

@panjee - date is today, and time is now :p

That happens when the WhatsApp servers lose connection to the FBI telemetry server

Haha welcome to the S3 mini club. Also had one, and it drove me absolutely  Utter POS phone.
Still got it. Thinking of getting a new screen + battery, then get ookson to help me fix it, and let him have it.
Got the same with 2 and then 1 day to go before that notice stopped Whatsapp

I uninstalled and then got latest from Play Store - picked up local backup on fone and installed fine - only lost last 3 days of chats since last backup

Same here after warnings from around Wednesday. YouTube'd. Had to reinstall from www.whatsapp.com/android. Seems to be a Miui issue.

Mine updated to a newer from the mi app store and did the same.

Uninstalled and installed the one available from the playstore which a version lower and turned off auto updates in the mi app store

You usually run into these issues because of different app versions from different app stores. I stick to the Google play store.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of upgrading my LG G3 but I'm torn between a few different devices and hope you guys can help me choose which one is right for me.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4/4x (not sure which would be the better choice)
Xiaomi Mi A1
Xiaomi Mi Max 2

I like the bigger screen and battery life on the Mi Max 2, but I'm afraid it might be a bit too big. The Mi A1 seems to have the best camera of the lot and Android One is also very enticing, but the smaller battery scares me a bit, I'm using an extended battery on my G3 (8000mAh) so not sure if I'd get through a day on the Mi A1. Then the tried and trusted Redmi Note 4/4x, great all-rounder it seems and R1000 cheaper at least - do the other two phones deserve the premium over this device?

I'm currently using LineageOS 15 on said G3 and need to charge daily - heavy usage (almost entirely browsing / reading) so a lot of SOT.

Which of these devices (or any alternatives) would you suggest? Is there a middle ground somewhere between the screen size / battery life / camera in the Xiaomi lineup?

Thanks in advance for any feedback - much appreciated.

Note 4/X and Mi Max 2 have mediocre/middle ground camera's but astounding battery life - this should rival your current setup SOT wise

Mi A1 has a much improved dual camera but reduced battery life - it going to fall short compared to your current setup SOT wise

I have your same dilemma - a Mi A1 with the 4000mah battery would be killer....

Make sure you get the snapdragon note note the mediatek

I have a Mi Max 2 (had a Redmi Note 3 before). Screen size is awesome, though it doesn't feel big in hand or in the pocket, due to it being very thin and round edges.
Camera for me is great. In dark areas, just have to play with the brightness/exposure, before capturing a pic (tap screen for circle to appear and drag up down to set brightness/exposure).

My oppinion: Mi A1 > Mi Max 2 > Note 4/x

Just be aware of the difference between the Redmi 4 / 4x and the Redmi Note 4. The Note 4 is more of a mid-range phone, the 4 / 4x is more entry level. GSM Arena comparison is here.

I have the Note 4. My biggest gripe for me with my phone was the MIUI bloat. Some people like it / don't mind it. I couldn't stand it. Lineage OS solved that problem for me (although this did not come easy). Battery life wise I get three days, I'd probably get a forth if I left it, but that would cut things fine for me. I can't say you'd get 3 days out of it though - sounds like you use your phone more than I do. The camera is enough to get by for me. Screen size is a tad big for me - the extra half inch puts it just over one handed use in some cases.

If you want the near-stock experience, the A1 is for you. I can't really comment on the Max 2.

I have the Redmi Note 4, and also the Xiaomi Mi MAX 2. The Mi Max 2 is freakin awesome !!!!! I like it so much, that I will be buying a second one when they release the 128 GB version in black - at the moment it's on notice at Gearbest. It fits in the pocket just fine, but the experience with that large screen and battery for media consumption is just out of this world. I can't say enough good things about the Mi Max 2

+1
Got my Mi Max 2 on Monday - battery was on 88% out of box.

Still haven't recharged since then - SOT is 16 + hrs and battery sits at 15% - just unbelievable

Love everything about this phone

BTW - got phone from SOUQ in Dubai - friend brought it over - R2,900 in my grubby paws ;-)

Mi A1 Feedback

I've had mine for a month now.

Battery: It can comfortably last a full day from 7am until 11pm with light to moderate usage. I've been playing Beat Fever on mine recently for an hour or 2 per day, and by bed time the low battery warning is going off.

User Interface: Silky smooth with no lag at all. I get an occasional force close error for google play store which hasn't really affected anything. Streaming music over Bluetooth is good with no clipping. I paid R20 or so for an App Called AutoInput, which simulates the immediate face unlock feature. Now I simply look at the phone and press the power button once to unlock it. This is well worth it in my opinion because I don't like fiddling around trying to use the fingerprint sensor.

Build Quality: Extremely sturdy and well made. No squeaks or rattles. Type C charging will take some getting used to because all of my other charger cables are Micro USB. Built in speaker is VERY good. Excellent Volume and no distortion. I was particularly impressed by this. The phone is very slippery without a cover as has already been pointed out. 3.5mm Headphone Quality is also excellent.

Camera: Works well in the day. Not great at night. Focus is not as perfect as my old Samsung S5, but it will do. If I could select a focal point on the screen and take the photo immediately, this would be a big improvement. At the moment it requires a double click which shakes the camera a little after initial focus.

I really really really wish that they could've put the Note 4x battery in this thing.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I have decided to get the Mi Max 2, that screen just kept screaming to me (the battery life was also a factor). I would've jumped at the A1 if it either had a 5.7 inch+ screen or the Redmi Note 4X battery, sadly it didn't seem to be destined.

Ordered it today with a few extra goodies:
https://www.gearbest.com/car-phone-holder/pp_574573.html?wid=21
https://www.gearbest.com/stands-holders/pp_632403.html?wid=21
https://www.gearbest.com/screen-protectors/pp_644966.html?wid=21
https://www.gearbest.com/cases-leather/pp_662016.html?wid=21

I saw read good things of the ring as well as case - hope the screen protector and mount isn't too bad, all in all (including Aramex priority mail for both packages) it came out to R4140.88. Figuring customs on the packages will hopefully be under R500?

I hope you got the Mi Max 2 at the reduced price - it was around $ 229 for a long time, but when I checked last night, Gearbest pushed the price up to $269. It's a great phone, I have no doubt you will be happy. When you mentioned the phone ring, I was going to jump in and tell you that a lot of the rings are designed for skinny Chinese fingers, however you bought the correct ring - I have one exactly the same, and my big index fingers fit all the way in. I have some other rings here from Gearbest that will only allow my pinkie finger to slide all the way in. I initially bought the ring thinking I probably would never use it, but with such a large phone it is very handy, and no need to worry about the phone slipping out of the hand. Let us know your experiences after the phone arrives.

Unfortunately I missed out on the price - I was considering buying at the reduced price but didn't make up my mind in time, an 8% off coupon also expired before I could use it, nevertheless, the Dollar is weak atm which means it wasn't a huge premium.

I actually saw your post suggesting that ring which is why I bought it also not sure if I'd use it, but that's what you also thought :crylaugh:. I just hope the mount will be able to hold the phone steady, then again with my driving the mount might not be the issue.

Pity you missed out on the low price, which Gearbest had the Mi Max 2 at from November. Here is my Mi Max 2, I have the same Nilkin covers - a red and a black one as seen in the pictures. As you can see, the ring comes in handy when thrashing the hand around without needing to grip onto it. It also helps with one handed finger navigating on the phone with its large screen.

Oh, its a personal choice, and perhaps you will like the standard Xiaomi launcher, but I downloaded several launchers, and like using the
CM launcher from the playstore.
