I went Mi A1 after a Note 3. Battery life about 20% less but doesn't bother me. Everything else a MASSIVE upgrade and Gearbest to your door for sub R3k
 
Installed yesterday. Love the notification shade for the push notifications
 
Tried installing it around 15 times. It kept on failing on anything between 40 and 70 percent.

It got to 100% now, then said it couldn't verify the source and I have to download it again. FML

Search on the Internet for an app APKPure, you can use it in the place of Play Store and will download anything that even sometimes Play Store won't. You won't find this app on the Play Store, you will have to donwload it from the Internet using your browser.

So I'm not alone, it's been downloading everyone I check it's restarted from scratch. Data usage shows an updater use 1.9gb today.
 
I eventually downloaded the ROM from the Xiaomi site and copied it to downloaded_rom and installed it manually. This was the wifi usage since this morning, ignoring the three or four attempts I made last night. Thank goodness for uncapped :D

Downloading the image on the phone, usually not a good idea, or so I've experienced. As it fails easily, especially when the phone falls asleep.

Going to try that now, does it update or wipe the phone doing it that way??

does that look right? besides the slow speed. uncapped but only 2mb line.

It applies the update over the existing build if you have the same 'channel' (stable, dev, etc.) so you shouldn't lose any data

Yup. Just stick the zip file into a folder in the root directory, open the updater app, hit 'select update from storage' or somesuch and point it to the file. It should verify the file and reboot and apply the update and you should see your homescreen in around about 15 minutes (that is how long mine took)
 
Run a sha256 checksum on the zip file. I'll do the same my side so you can check if the file got damaged or something

****, have I just been lucky that my phone always just updates with no issues. Just a guess, could it be installing is failing as there is not enough free space on device?

Wouldn't allow me to edit.

I'll try again tomorrow morning on Telkom LTE. Maybe a fast ota download will help get it done before it loses connection and starts over as it's been doing.
