The Official Xiaomi Thread

Hi there
Was it R3200 with customs?
Please can you share the link, seems like none of the online stores have any good deals on the 6/128 gig version

Mine is the 6GB/64GB version.

Had it delivered from Amazon to a relative in the states last week, who happened to be visiting this week :)

It was around $217.

So I decided to change my phone with the Redmi 8 for the next week or so and have a better feel of not only android but Xiaomi phones. Currently setting it up as my daily driver and then i'll see down the line if its worth keeping or maybe even opting for a better one if I feel this one falls short.

Out of curiosity - whats the best way to get the note 8 or note 8 pro for a steal? I haven't used gearbest before or even shipped anything from overseas. And most local online stores all say out of stock.

Gearbest is in my opinion trustworthy, they use Aramex courier, they do all the import admin in RSA on your behalf. Just a note, you must be patient, I waited 4 weeks for customs to clear my phone.

Picked up my Mi9 late afternoon.

Haven't played around too much. Just set up the basics and copied accounts and crucial apps.

But first impressions are very good. Responsive, great screen and loving the fingerprint scanner on the front, which is also very fast and responsive. The scanner on the S8 was at the back which meant you were always smudging the camera when you miss it.

A bit bigger than my S8 but doesn't feel bulky and still easily manageable with 1 hand.

Yet to test out the camera apart from a selfie.

Pay more for Expedited Shipping which is DHL. To your door in under a week.

Is it the one with the popup camera? Keen to hear your views on the back camera

No. I went for the regular Mi9. The Mi9T Pro has the pop-up selfie camera.

Wireless charging was a deal breaker for me.

Will put the camera to the test when I get the chance. Bit of a hectic few days ahead so will probably only be next week.

Mi 9 has a notch for the selfie camera
Mi 9T and 9T Pro have the pop up camera.

I have the 9T. 48MP main rear shooter is very good.

Thanks for the clarifications. Must be honest I struggle with a little blurring on the rear of the k20 pro =9t

Just a quick walk about this afternoon...

Very happy with the quality and the responsiveness of the focus.

Colour is really good and getting nice depth of field.

Yet to try out the wide angle lens.

Took some stunning pictures of the wife and kids.

But here are two other samples. (and yes I turned off the watermark already).

So I've used my Mi 9 Lite for a few days now, man, what an upgrade coming from a Redmi 4 (not the note).

This phone is incredible for the price. It looks so premium. I got the blue model, and it does this cool aurora borealis thing on the back when light hits it. Performance is good, it's a massive improvement over the Redmi 4. Everything feels nice and snappy, haven't noticed any lag but I don't play many games either. The best part... the screen my dudes... wow. AMOLED is something else, it's so sharp and the colours are A+. Battery life is also fantastic.

I was worried about the size, I've got small man hands, I can't lie, but after using it, yeah I like it a lot. There's so much screen real estate now. I'm using gesture navigation, and that helps a lot for one handed use, I think I like it more than the three button approach. Gestures have been working great with Nova Launcher so far.

Only downside is craptastic MIUI. I wish this had been the Mi A3, or the Mi A3 Pro, then I could have got my stock android and been happy. There's early versions of Lineage and Pixel Exp available, but they need more development. Hopefully with the price cuts the phone becomes popular, but with no official Indian launch, I am concerned about the custom ROM scene. Once they're ready though, I'll switch and be happy. Thought about flashing Xiaomi.EU, but eh, not worth the effort.
