The Official Xiaomi Thread

I received my fathers Redmi 9A today via Takealot.
To my suprise it came with a clear case and tempered glass screen protector bundled with the phone (it doesn't come standard).

So far setting it up it looks like a really good device.
Pretty smooth for a device with only 2gb of ram. (Best to clear apps in the background regularly.)

Performance for basic tasks is very good. No complaints. Screen isn't bad either for 720p.

Camera is okay for daily use.

I think my father is going to really like it.

Now that the redmi note 10 is out, I wonder when it will reach mia africa.
I sent them a message on their Facebook and Whatsapp channels, FB said it's on their roadmap and Whatsapp said they don't have plans at the moment.
I want to get the Note 10 Pro, been scouting around for some deals online but haven't seen anything yet

Even better when said entry-level phone doesn't have any crapware installed.

I know Xiaomi phone do send data back to the mothership... anybody know how to nip that in the bud?

Ja it had quite a few pre installed apps but they were easy to get rid of.

No idea how to prevent data being sent back to Xiaomi.

Delete Facebook, WhatsApp and all Google apps?

Alternately, switch off WiFi and data...

You could try AdGuard DNS - you should have the option to add a private DNS under Connection & Sharing

Grab Lineage OS from XDA Developers
AFWall+ : Block all services & apps by default, then only allow apps you whitelist.

That AMOLED display is a seller for me.

First get phone unlocked via your Xiaomi account.
Then grab the latest stable EU rom for your phone model
Has all the bloatware removed

So I got my Redmi Note 9 Pro today, but there is already a big snag! Factory Reset Protection (FRP).

I have no clue who the previous owner was so the phone is basically bricked. I'll have to return it to Loot and they'll probably try selling it to another fool.

Edit:
I'm referring to this post.

So previous owner didn't log out of their Xiaomi account before resetting and sending back.

Problem is if you wanna reset it, it will ask you for the password.

If the owner's email is still active, and the mi password is still linked to this email account, then it should be possible to reset it...

...but I will prefer not to go there, illegal use of an email account.

There was a PIN, so I'm not even sure if the phone was reset by the previous owner. I didn't know about Google's FRP, so I did a hard factory reset, and now Google wants either the old account (email address) or PIN.

Holding down @ on the keyboard doesn't take you to settings, the only option it gives you is "one handed mode".

Ah OK so is googles frp. Not sure then, suppose the previous owners google account is needed

Got a couple of company-owned Huawei P10 lite phones. When doing a factory reset, the phones ask for the previous account after a reset.

Which I'm able to give as we have the gmail email address and password recorded. So it is no problem.

Problem is, what do a determined ne'er-do-well do when facing this sort of frp? How do they bypass it?

I'll ask Loot to try and get the phone's PIN from whoever returned the phone, but I don't think that is going to happen. The other option (I think) is for the previous owner to remove the phone from their Google account.
