The Official Xiaomi Thread

This explains a lot a lot, Nintendo and Apple may not be everyone's favourite companies, in terms of consumer friendliness, but they sure do offer great products.
Core group just make sure you pay a premium on top of the premium these products come with, same with Xiaomi phones here
I initially thought that Xiaomi SA would offer flash sales like they do internationally.

Nope... We get Core group treating Xiaomi like they are Samsung & Huawei in SA.

I haven't done this before so just asking. How difficult is it to flash a new rom on your phone, particularly the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro?
I was looking at videos of the Pixel Experience Android 12 Rom and it's been getting pretty good reviews. It's fast, not bloated and based on stock Android 12.
Looking at the instructions, it does look complicated but then I know sometimes following instructions can look complicated as opposed to doing for real, especially if you haven't done it before.
Also, I bought my phone Cellucity so it is the Vodacom version. Hope that doesn't complicate matters further. Apparently the Pixel Experience Android 12 Rom seems to get regular Android and security updates whereas MIUI does not.
I'd appreciate some experienced feedback.

It's not hard...if you have an older phone lying around, do some experimenting. I've found Lineage do the best job at instructions and OTA support so I've stuck to their ROMs.

If it's just the bloatware, it might be easier to get the EU ROM instead of a whole new OS.

Thank you. I do have an older Redmi 4A still laying around which I could probably experiment with.
Unfortunately it's more than just bloatware. I don't seem to getting regular security or android updates on the Xiaomi phone. This is one of the main reasons I decided on a new phone. My other phone, a Samsung S8+ and is still working 100%, has become end of support so not getting any further updates.
Now I am hoping that using a different rom will allow me to regular updates.

I have found a new problem with my Note 9s all of a sudden. It does not want to fast charge. In fact charging from 18-94 took over 6 hours. It will sometimes say its fast charging then just never fast charge.

Think I have to RTM on this one....

Cables are really fragile these days

Trust me. I tried the cables... and the turning it on and off.... .Wife has exact same phone and she tried my cable and charger and I tried hers and its still the same issue.

Oceanhorn on Redmi 9C is just beautiful, as it can render at high quality.

The 9C looks good too, and responds snappily.

Ooklet v1.00 will be very happy with this new phone.

I expect Frau Ook will also be wanting one.

Interesting to note that it uses microUSB instead of USB-C.

Xiaomi updates come when they come...it's irritating. I also had nothing from like August to December last year then bam, 2 OS updates in a month (Google security updates included).

There are *unofficial* ports of Lineage for the Samsung S8+ - the process would be broadly the same (unlock bootloader, install recovery, get + install ROM, get + install GAPPS) so might be worth messing with that instead of the Redmi.

Is the Poco M4 pro a good way to try Xiaomi out?

Anybody know when the Poco X4 Pro will be available?

How does one find this magical thing to install on the famed 9C?

Thank you for the feedback. I saw there were some lineage OS for the S8+ while doing research.

Anyone using or planning on getting the Xiaomi 12 series? Specifically the 12 Pro?

I'm considering buying a Redmi Note 10 Pro and importing to SA.

Does anybody have an suggestions regarding online stores and advice regarding customs.

Thanks.
