The Official Xiaomi Thread

Anyone received the MIUI 13 Android 12 update for their Redmi Note 9 Pro?
I can see it on sites. Released more than a month ago yet still nothing OTA.

I swear, after I manually updated a few months ago, it's like OTAs just don't appear anymore.

New mediatek good (Dimensity), old mediatek (like the Helios) is crap.
But are they though.
Why do you say that?
I don't know much about the new Dimensity stuff.

Is MediaTek finally being proactive with blobs and actually supporting their chipsets?
My understanding is that the reason MTK phones never really get updates was because MTK essentially abandoned their chipsets soon after release.

Or are you just talking about performance?

Performance, they've been getting good reviews for their Dimensity chips.

I suppose the jury is still out for ongoing support.

How is everyone backing up their phone on their PC?
I want to do a local backup, not cloud, but get this error on Mi PC Suite. Seems to be a common issue...

Edit: phone is a Xiaomi note 10 pro running MIU 13.0.12

Fast-growing Chinese smartphone and consumer electronics brand Xiaomi has opened its first retail store in South Africa.

The “experience store” will be opened officially at Sandton City in Johannesburg on 29 October but is already trading.

Finally installed custom rom on my Note 10 Pro and it's made a world of a difference!
Im still struggling with my Note 9S. Always fails to recognise my phone connected to the PC in the software. Really sucks.

I've grown to love Xiaomi phones. Next time in Joberg will visit the store

What did you go with?
I'm on crDroid loads of features, Mi 9

Project Elixir (Android 13). Everything seems to work fine. Nice additional features too. Much smoother than the MIUI 13 update that was crashing apps and whatnot.

Looking forward to the opening of the store in Canal Walk.

Is there any practical difference between these 2 phones? Specs seem almost identical. Any differences with the OS or MIUI?

At a glance it seems that the Poco M4 is the newer, slightly superior phone.
A few tiny improvements here and there at the same price -- I would definitely go with the Poco.

Software updates will come through longer and the display appears to be 90hz vs 60hz on the Redmi - which is the biggest deal hardware wise.

Thanks. I see the Note 11, Note 10 Pro and Note 11 Pro are not too much more. Do any of those offer a significant benefit? Screen on the 11 Pro seems a bit better at 120 Hz?

Cameras seem to be where the most differences are. Poco has a better front facing camera while if you want to record in 4K 30fps on the main camera then get the 10S. note 10s also has bluetooth 5.1 vs 5.0 on the Poco if that is a dealbreaker to you. If the marginal differences in cameras are not all that troublesome to you then get the Poco as it is newer and likely to get updates for longer as the other member has said.

Thanks, not too fussed with cameras as long as it takes a decent photo from the main camera. Video not that important. Don't really use bluetooth either. Currently on a Samsung A6+ which is starting to show signs that it needs replacing. Getting slow opening a browser, not responding, slow wifi etc.
