The Official Xiaomi Thread

Hi all, got a strange one here that started 2 days ago after I rebooted my Note 12 Pro normally.
The phone thinks that the reboot was a factory reset for some reason - all installed apps seem to be working fine and nothing looks out of the ordinary or missing form a functionality perspective, however, have noticed that certain app notifications are either intermittent, or have stopped - Tapatalk for example (can't tell if it's Tapatalk on the blink again or if it's affected by this particular restore issue). The SIM card signal for my voice card also disappears every so often, like there's no connectivity at all, but that could also just be Vodacom, as it happens frequently recently with all the loadshedding...

Running stock MIUI Global 14.0.4, from new. Phone is a couple of months old.

There's now a permanent notification from MIUI SDK saying that system items need to be restored to use MIUI normally after a factory reset; I assume it will stay there until it's done what it needs to do, but can't complete it:
MIUI error 1.jpg

If I tap it, I get this notice:
MIUI error 2.jpg

Click Restore and this is in the notification bar:
MIUI error 3.jpg

After 30 seconds or so, it goes through 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3, then this notice pops up, like it can't complete whatever it's trying to restore.
MIUI error 4.jpg

Network is fine and have also tried on both wifi and cell data - same notice/error and cannot restore whatever it's trying to restore. Not even sure what it's trying to restore on the 3 items.

Any ideas - search doesn't seem to find anything for MIUI 14, or recent...

hi, just saw this

Will let you guys know how the chinese version miui is like, I know i can just enable google basic services and download play store without rooting. Just not sure how much much ads there are.

Maybe mybb can branch out and start doing some crowd import of phones from China to lower the individual unit price. :sneaky:
After a little over a week of using the chinese miui rom, it really wasn't as problematic as I expected. Installing all the google apps were pretty easy, just enable google basic service from settings, then download the google play store and go from there. I have installed all the google apps that I can think of, and they have been working without issues so far (have not tested google wallet tho). There were no delays from whatsapp, no issues with cell signals outside mainland china. I also did not see any ads unless I open those chinese apps a few times which was a pleasant surprise. Apparently the android upate also gets roll out earlier for the chinese rom which I shall see if it is true.

With that said, the chinese rom does have A LOT of bloated apps pre-installed, took sometime to uninstall most of them, but some did look useful so I kept them (e.g. JD; PDD; alipay etc but they are only in chinese tho). There is also a weird quirk where the home screen search bar only have baidu; sugou or 360 for the search engine option, I can't set it to google anywhere, so I just use the chrome browser for searches now.

So all in all, considering how much cheaper it was compared to the international models on xiaomi Hong Kong, I am pretty happy getting this from taobao. Hopefully this helps those who are looking at importing xiaomi from asia.

What did you get at what price in hand?

Google Wallet stopped working for anyone due to custom rom? Just got a warning now and can't make payments
It's a Google issue, they made a change on their side.

Xiaomi.eu is currently rolling out updates that address this.

Fu3k around and thats what happens kak phone even kakker software ,what do you expect .
I can say that the Mix 4 is a fantastic phone. I have just never seen another one in South Africa. I haven't been happier with a phone before.

Just don't consider my swearing when Google Pay suddenly didn't work. That's the only issue I've had with custom ROM and it's apparently being addressed.

Views on the Redmi Note 12 PRO 256GB version?

Vodacom has lost the plot
No more 24mth promo data, used to get an additional 10GBs

The consultant said it's due to the economy and COVID say whaaat

Now wondering if MTN would give me monthly additional 10 or 20GBs?

Don't need smss or voice anymore Really

For those basic packages, you get so little data and minute's yet 500sms lol

And then when you multiply the monthly payment x 36 it's like more than double the Device cash price

Years ago it was subsidized so it actually made sense to take a contract with Phone
Also looking a Note 12 Pro - not too worried if its 4G or 128Gb... my Note 8 has reached EOL... not liking wireless AA.

Only reasonable one I can find: https://www.vodacom.co.za/shopping/deal-details-page/DV3K04DABM?contractSkus=DV3K04DABM

Well crap, now I'm going to need to find a phone ASAP - my Note 8 died a permanent death this morning in gym.
