The Opel Mokka (X) Thread

Test drove an older (2015) Mokka recently. While I enjoyed it I'm a little put off by the price tag (R290,000 all in) considering the 60000km/3 year motor plan expires this year. I'm not sure if I should keep looking or not.

From what I’ve seen the older one is nowhere in the same league as the new one so I wouldn’t even be looking at the car at all then.

Is it 290k for a 2015? Or are you referring to the price of a new one because at 290k it’s virtually the same price as a new one and wouldn’t make any sense to buy.

Spec many competitors like the Captur, EcoSport, HR-V, Creta, Juke, 2008, Duster, Vitata, C-HR.

Power not that many. Coffee has the 1.4 T with 103kw. For your price you should be able find a CX-3; 500X turbo; Renegade turbo.

Thanks - I'll pass on anything with a Renault, Ford, or Fiat badge straight off the bat. The CX-3 seems nice but they seem to be in the R300k price range - or at least the one I found on AutoTrader so far was.

The Juke is just TFU for my tastes.

Just go check out a new one.

Agreed. We were discussing spec not quality. The top spec models mentioned is pretty much on par with the Coffee (X).

Agreed. Besides all that the exterior styling makes the non-X Coffee seem rather dumpy.

I have some experience with the Coffee & Coffee X & the X model has that (s******) X factor. Lovely crossover.

I'm in the market for an SUV and the Mokka is standing out and best choice ito looks, price, service and warranty plans.
Must still test drive the Manuel and the Auto and decide which one to go for or better fun drive. Seemingly as I am getting older and traffic always a mess I might just lean towards the auto.

Tiguan overpriced, X5 to expensive to maintain, ix35 decent, but just falls short, Tuscon 2nd choice, but price abit much for the 2l premium. Mazda X5 out of my budget.

The rest SUV's does not appeal to me for my budget of 250k-300k

You are confusing things here.

Both the Cosmo and Enjoy are Mokka X’s. It’s the “package” basically.

The Cosmo is the top spec version with leather and heated seats as well as other features.

It’s all listed on their website, but best to view it on a Desktop as the mobile version doesn’t show it.

Or just visit the dealers and see both cars or get the brochure.

I popped around the other day and they only had an Enjoy at N1 City which had already been sold so couldn’t drive it.

I think you have the context wrong. The Opel Mokka (Non X) first went on sale in European countries in late 2012. It only hit SA in early 2015. The Mokka X replaced the Mokka in late 2016 & this time round SA got the model fairly soon after the Euro launch.

The Mokka & Mokka X under the skin is the same car. The X version is essentially a facelift. New exterior & updated interior styling, more tech etc.

The “X” signifies the crossover intention introduced by Opel last year. Mokka X, Crossland X & Grandland X.

Locally the Mokka & Mokka X only came in 2 spec levels. Enjoy & the higher spec Cosmo. So you need to compare the spec of the Enjoy vs Cosmo.

According to the local site the Cosmo has standard leather seats, the Enjoy does not. Both spec levels are relatively comprehensive.

The autobox option is only offered in the higher spec trim.

Virtually the same price? A high spec 2015 Enjoy for 290k vs a mid range Mokka X Cosmo for R70k more goes beyond virtually... and my budget.

They also had a 2016/7 Captiva LT which was virtually the same price which is also tempting.
