The overconnected

I think I'm one of those people who hates being disconnected.
Though, I only have my ADSL at home which must always be on and downloading.
I check my gmail via my cellphone and feel lost without at least checking my e-mail.
I'm sad! someone hold me!

Its all the crackberry's fault. . . .

Email: there
IM's: there
Facebook updates: there (though thats more of an issue for the FB addicted missus)

But its ok . . . . I dont have a problem . . . . honest :o

I hate being DC'ed :( if I am not playing online I am just looking up review/news/gamines/wiki stuff or useless information... There is just nothing good on T.V anymore ;)

hope my missus doesn't discover it... I've kept quiet about it, but today's Beeld headlines read "Beware of Facebook", so she'll ask /me, and I have to show her...

no money for good books exacerbates the problem :)

Want to read the Narnia chronicles, and the new Terry Brooks (Armageddon's Children) books, as well as Fatal Revenant.

Its only a problem if she has a blackberry - they get pushed (like the email) straight to the phone . . . . and then life as you know it is over.

I've replaced my TV addiction with the internet, its a whole lot better I think, where TV offered no social interaction the internet is loaded with social interaction and TV shows and movies and anything else you can think of.

You just have to remind yourself sometimes to switch off and go outside..
[LoLnote: I was a brown skinned coloured before I got my pc, now I'm all pasty white...but still coloured according to my birth certificate]

This is actually quite an important article. I'm a software developer and self-proclaimed IT geek. I've been working with PC's since the mid 1980's (My dad had one of the first Apple networks in South Africa) and I've always loved technology. When I'm at work, I'm behind the PC all day. When I get home, I check a few things on the web or generally mess about for a while behind the PC and all my entertainment runs off my PC.

That said, I do not own a laptop and I have a basic cellphone with only GPRS access. I've had plenty opportunities to get a laptop but I've never seen the need. I have a machine at work and I have one at home. That's enough. When I go out of the house I leave all connectivity behind, otherwise, what's the use? You might as well take 2 weeks off and sit behind the PC at home and save yourself some petrol.

Sighhh...just go it under control - crackberry was enough - and then I had to go and get myself a macbook pro...and thus the 15 year cycle starts once again...!....:D

To be fair having a blackberry means not having to hover around a computer and no obsessing about what emails you might be missing. ;)

I'm not addicted to the internet. I can stop at any time.
But seriously - I cut down on my net time when I realized that I completely lose track of time while surfing.
Luckily I now have a 1 year-old daughter. Now THAT is a serious distraction!

Like all things in life it only gets out of control if you let it. More and more people don't have the self control anymore. i am also wired but i am no addict...

now where is that email....................

All you guys seem to be denying the fact that we are addicts...there is nothing wrong with our addiction...in fact i am extremely proud of it...i've learnt more about the world around me due to the internet and the information one can absorb from it...even more than actual world itself surprisingly

...information overload is never a bad thing once you learn how to use the energy gained wisely...

When I dont have my internet, and I have to deal with normal people and normal every day issues. I feel like I have walked into the twilight zone of backwards existence.
