The PC Build Thread

Hi all,

Looking for some help. A mate of mine is looking for a new pc, requirements are at least a 19" screen and he will be doing some light video editing and spreadsheet work. No gaming required. Otherwise just the usual day to day stuff like youtube, e-mail, etc.

Budget not more than 10k but preferably less. He has an older Wd 7200rpm drive and dvd writer that can print labels which he wants to continue using.

This is what he is thinking of getting: https://www.makro.co.za/computing-a...-intel-core-i3-all-in-one-desktop-pc-330953EA

^, what software will he be using for the video editing? Go check on the vendor's website for recommended hardware and work from there.

I'd avoid that just because it's an all-in-one, you can't upgrade/replace components easily.
I'd say run off integrated graphics, get something like a Ryzen 5 2400G (https://www.wootware.co.za/amd-ryze...6ghz-3-9ghz-turbo-socket-am4-desktop-apu.html), 8GB DDR4 RAM. I wouldn't go below 8GB of RAM. I am sure e.g. Ponder or someone else can recommend a better system.

Just to clarify:
You also need:
- screen
- mouse
- keyboard
- case

And also:
- PSU
- motherboard
then the CPU and RAM suggested or something else that someone suggests. The linked CPU comes with a cooler and has integrated graphics. AMD's integrated graphics are quite a bit better than the Intel equivalent, though you probably won't notice too much of a difference with your workload.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing. I'll start with that Ryzen cpu and see what I can put together.

Hello,

I'm looking for a basic GPU to just display to a 1440p screen for Work and Youtube, do any of you have recommendations? Would the DisplayPort on the AMD 5450 be able to handle this without any issues?

Do we have a thread/sticky with recommended pc builds on this forum? This thread is a sticky, but what I am after is a sticky with classic "build templates"

Things change too often, products change, prices change, price/performance ratio changes. Looking at old builds not the best way to go.

Rather post your budget, pc use scenario, games you play, resolution you game at to get more up to date suggestions.

Hello everyone.

I want to build a PC and would appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

This is what I have thus far. I believe everything is compatible. Also any suggestions on specials for 1TB SSDs? Thanks.

Ask Flashgear if one of these is still available: https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showth...ed-Samsung-850-EVO-1TB-SSD-s-Retail-Packaging
Have one in this laptop from him, within two days of ordering.

EDIT:
I see that mobo has an M2 port, maybe: https://www.wootware.co.za/crucial-ct1050mx300ssd4-mx300-1tb-m-2-2280-ssd.html
EDIT2: Ignore that M2, seems the SATA is faster? http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-850-Evo-1TB-vs-Crucial-MX300-1TB/3576vs3645
