You can use the controller I linked to. Upgrading a mb for some blingy lights seems excessive.

Yes, the connector seems standard. You do get 12V rgb fans like XSPC RGB Series for example but I dont know if they work with aura sync.
Yeah ok great. Will order controller then.

So got the "controller" from Wootware and all fans are working now with RGB. The controller needs to be connected to sata power so I have taken a slot out the back and just have it hanging there for now for easy access. Going to watch the temps as I might need to upgrade my case Phanteks P400S as I have read it not the best for airflow / cooling with the 1080ti and once I decide then will do a more permanent solution for the controller.

If your psu is bottom mounted and the fan pointing down you can rotate it so the fan is pointing up, i've found this also helps extracting hot air from the case. top mounting the aio with the fans blowing out might also help.

Do you know if you get an aftermarket AIO coolers for the 1080ti I got? I know you get waterblocks for watercooled systems but I have also seen AIO coolers for GPU's but not sure where to find them or if it is possible with my GPU?

I'm not sure about one made specifically for your gpu but have a look at the NZXT Kraken G12 GPU Mounting Kit which works with many cpu aio coolers.

You'll have to add thermal tape & small heatsinks to the vram and power delivery components though as it's not a full cover solution.

Tried something new last night. I have this old LGA775 board that stopped picking up the RAM. I know the RAM is fine because I have an identical board that started working after I cleaned it up. So I thought why not put the board in the dishwasher and hang it out to dry today.

I'll give it a good once over with the hairdryer when I get home to make sure all moisture is gone and then try it one last time.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Also, let me know if this is more suited to it's own thread or if I can leave this question here.

I'll try to keep it short, so let me know if I left out critical details:
Old system, (bought around 2008 iirc):
Core2 Duo 8400 LGA 775
4GB DDR2 666hz RAM
Geforce GT8600 Graphics Card

I boot from a USB and install Windows 10 64bit. Everything is happy. I try to play ZWIFT (cycling training program/game), but the graphics are very laggy. So i read up on the required benchmarks etc and it indicates that a new graphics card will give the best bang for buck.

So I buy a Gigabyte GT 1030. I got it yesterday afternoon. I download the Nvidia driver files from their website after doing a search before doing anything else. Shut down, pull out old Graphics Card, put in new one, Power On.

Firstly, system is VERY SLOW to start up, maybe 15mins....

Eventually get in and I set all graphics to lowest resolution and then try to install the driver software which is already downloaded. It takes an age to extract files and then during "Checking compatibility" phase it bombs out and says "Driver installation failed, there are other installations running"

Trust me, there are no other installations running. I tried restarting computer multiple times and every time I get the same failure.

So I go into Device manager to see if I can do the driver install there but the Graphics Card doesn't show there, only the onboard "Intel Chipset G33" or something display adapter.

The Graphics Card fan is on and I get an image through the DVI port on the new card to the screen, so there isn't a connection problem. System is just VERY slow because I assume the CPU is still doing all the work w.r.t. graphics because the new drivers are not running yet.

I am at the point where I think a total system reinstall from the USB boot drive is my only option, short of buying a new motherboard, Ram and CPU

Any suggestions how to fix it on my current system?
Is this graphics Card just incompatible with my old system, should I find a 2nd-hand i3 system somewhere for cheap and just build this card into that?

I am not wanting to do any serious gaming, just want to ride Zwift with fairly smooth graphics, would be most helpful if I can just get this current system running

Which motherboard is it :)
That is the one piece of detail I don't know how to get. I tried looking for descriptions on the board but I don't know what I am looking for. The only markings that seem vaguely familiar is Intel and LGA 775.

Should be good as long as the dishwasher is Bosch.

Download cpu z it will give you the mobo detail.

Cool, will do that when I get home this afternoon.

What are we looking for once I get the Motherboard description? The PCI slot populated to the board and whether that is compatible with the specific graphics card?

Turns out the triple core Phenom I got was a direct rip from a Acer Aspire X3450 so I had fun time figuring out the front I/O pins. But I did in the end. Now she is running in the butchered old NCR case.
